Domus SLENDA Round 400mm 15/24W LED Oyster

The Domus SLENDA-RND 400 is a surface-mounted LED oyster — 400 mm, 15 W or 24 W switchable, 3000/4000/5000 K switchable, IP54, double insulated, in white or black.

⭐⭐ The black version is meaningfully dimmer here — up to 8.1%

• ⭐ AT THIS SIZE IT IS WORTH ACTING ON. ⭐ Six to eight per cent is close to the threshold where a difference becomes visible side by side, and on a lux calculation it is a real deduction.
• ⭐⭐ BUT WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHY. ⭐ Read across all three SLENDA sizes, the difference does not behave like a single physical effect:

• ⭐ AN OPTICAL LOSS FROM A DARKER INTERIOR WOULD BE CONSISTENT. ⭐ A spread from nothing to eight per cent across three sizes of one product family is not that. ⭐ It reads as separately-measured products carrying ordinary batch-to-batch variation.
• ⭐ WHAT WE CAN SAY WITH CONFIDENCE: on this 400 mm model the published black figures are 6 to 8% below the white ones, and that is the number to design with if you are choosing black. ⭐ What we cannot say is that black costs you light across the range — on the 300 mm it does not.

⭐ 400 mm and up to 2,738 lumens — what it actually covers

• ⭐ At the 24 W setting the white version gives 2,551 to 2,738 lm. ⭐ That is a genuine room light rather than a supplementary one.
• ⭐ WITH A 100° BEAM FROM A 2.4 m CEILING, the light spreads over roughly a 5.7 m circle — ⭐ so a single 400 mm fitting covers a bedroom, a small living room or a large bathroom on its own.
• ⭐ THE 15 W SETTING IS THE ONE MOST PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT IN A BEDROOM. ⭐ 1,800 lm is comfortable; 2,700 in a bedroom at night is more than pleasant. ⭐ Set it low and use the headroom where the room is bigger or the ceiling higher.
• ⭐ Across the three sizes the range covers a hallway (250 mm) to a living room (400 mm) with one part family and one appearance — ⭐ which is why it is worth choosing as a range rather than a single fitting.

⭐ Double insulated — the property that decides retrofits

⭐ Polypropylene and polystyrene body, double insulated. ⭐⭐ IT INSTALLS WHERE THERE IS NO EARTH WIRE AT THE FITTING — ⭐ common in older Australian housing, where lighting circuits were run before earthing at the point was standard. ⭐ A Class I metal fitting cannot legally go there without rewiring the circuit; this can. ⭐ On a renovation replacing a dozen old oysters, that single property is often the difference between a day's work and a rewire.

⭐ IP54 and coastal use

⭐ IP54 is dust-protected and splash-protected from any direction — ⭐ which covers bathrooms, laundries and covered outdoor areas. ⭐ Domus specifically names coastal dwellings, and the reason is the dust half of the rating rather than the water half: salt-laden air carries fine particles that get into an unsealed fitting and corrode it from the inside. ⭐ A sealed body keeps them out.

⚠ Two record fields understate what the fitting does

⛔ The product record lists 24 W only, where the fitting is 15/24 W switchable, and 3000 K and 4000 K only, where it is a three-temperature fitting. ⭐ The datasheet has both wattages and all three colours. ⭐ We have published what the sheet says, because that is what the fitting does.

An optical loss from a darker interior would be consistent; a spread from zero to eight per cent is not, and reads as separately-measured products carrying ordinary variation. ⭐ Design to the black figures on THIS size.
