DOMUS SHADOWLINE-900 LED VANITY LIGHT

The Domus SHADOW-LINE 900 is a surface-mounted LED vanity profile — 900 mm, 9 W, 756–864 lm, 240 V, in anodised aluminium, black or white.

⭐ Its figures are the ones that proved its sibling's record wrong

• ⭐ This model publishes 9 W and 756 / 810 / 864 lm. ⭐ That is 84, 90 and 96 lumens per watt.
• ⭐ The 600 mm model publishes 6 W and 504 / 540 / 576 lm — ⭐ which is the same 84, 90 and 96 lm/W, exactly.
• ⭐⭐ THAT AGREEMENT IS WHAT SETTLED IT. ⭐ The 600's product record publishes 9 W — this model's figure — and at 9 W the 600's lumens would read 56, 60 and 64 lm/W, matching nothing in the range. ⭐ So the 600's record carries this model's wattage, and its true figure is 6 W.
• ⭐ THIS MODEL'S OWN RECORD IS CORRECT. ⭐ 9 W is right for 900 mm.
• ⭐ The useful general point: on a range sold at multiple lengths, dividing lumens by watts across the lengths will expose any figure that has drifted — ⭐ because the same LED at two lengths must give the same efficacy.

⛔ It shares the IP20-versus-IP44 problem

⭐ The record publishes IP20 and the sheet's footnote says IP44. ⭐ Both SHADOWLINE listings carry it and no other product in the catalogue does. ⭐⭐ ON A VANITY LIGHT THAT IS THE FIELD THAT MATTERS MOST — ⭐ IP20 is no water protection at all and IP44 is splash-rated, and a bathroom zone requirement turns on exactly that. ⭐ We have published neither and asked Domus. ⭐ Treat it as IP20 until confirmed, and ask us if your installation depends on IP44.

⭐ 900 mm — and how to choose between the two lengths

• ⭐ THE RULE THAT WORKS: match the light to the mirror, not to the room. ⭐ A 900 mm profile over a 900 mm mirror reads as designed; the same profile over a 600 mm mirror reads as a mistake.
• ⭐ If the mirror is wider than 900 mm, the profile can sit centred and shorter — ⭐ a continuous line reads well as long as it is symmetrical. ⚠ What does not work is a profile slightly narrower than the mirror, which looks like it was meant to match and failed.
• ⭐ On a double vanity, two 600 mm profiles centred over each basin usually beat one long one — ⭐ because the light lands where faces are rather than spanning the gap between them.
• ⭐ 810 lm at 4000 K over a single basin is a comfortable working level. ⭐ It is not a lot of light in absolute terms, which is correct — a vanity light that is too bright is unpleasant to stand under.

⭐ A continuous line rather than lamps

⭐ Extruded 6063 aluminium with an opal PMMA diffuser gives an unbroken line of light. ⭐ Against a fitting made of two or three discrete lamps, the difference on a face is substantial — ⭐ discrete sources cast overlapping shadows and light one side more than the other, and a continuous line does not. ⭐ For shaving or makeup that evenness is the entire reason to choose this over a cheaper multi-lamp fitting. ⭐ 6063 with clear anodising is the same alloy and finish used in architectural glazing, which is why it survives a wet room.

⛔ Not dimmable

⭐ The sheet says so explicitly. ⚠ Do not put it on a dimmer — ⭐ a non-dimmable driver on a dimmer circuit will flicker, buzz or fail. ⭐ For vanity lighting that is rarely a loss, since it is task light wanted at full output or off. ⭐ Dim a separate ceiling circuit if the bathroom needs a low setting. ⭐ An integral driver is included; a remote driver option exists for wall cavities that will not take the depth.
