Product Description

The Domus PLEX-COB Live Cable Connector is a solderless strip-to-driver connector — 5 pack, with a 1000 mm or 2000 mm tail.

⭐⭐ No soldering — and a pair of pliers is genuinely all it takes
  • ⭐ Domus states it plainly: the PLEX-COB accessories are “used to make install easier of all our IP54 COB strip as all that is needed to attach to the strip is a pair of pliers, no soldering required”.
  • ⭐ That is a bigger deal than it reads. ⚠ Soldering an LED strip on site requires an iron, power at the position, a steady hand at an awkward angle, and the risk of lifting a pad or overheating the strip. ⭐ It is the step that most often goes wrong on a strip installation, and the one an electrician is least equipped for.
  • ⭐ A crimped connector removes all of it. ⭐ Which means the strip can be cut and terminated at the position, on the day, by whoever is on site.
  • ⭐ And Domus publishes a number for how well it holds: connector pulling force = 4.64 kgf. ⭐ That is roughly four and a half kilograms of straight pull. ⭐ Very few accessories in any catalogue publish a retention figure at all, ⭐ and on a connection that will be tugged during installation it is exactly the right thing to state.
⭐⭐ And they fit inside the profile

⭐ “Connectors will fit inside the profile supplied.” ⭐ That single sentence solves the problem that otherwise defines a strip installation: ⚠ a joint or a feed point that will not fit in the channel forces the strip out of the profile at exactly the place you least want a break. ⭐ Here the connector goes in the channel with the strip — ⭐ so a run can be fed or joined mid-length without interrupting the line. ⚠ It is stated once, in an accessory listing, and nowhere on the profile pages where someone planning the run would look.

⭐ 1000 mm or 2000 mm tail — choose on the driver, not the strip
  • ⭐ The tail is the cable from the strip to the driver, ⭐ so its length is set by where the driver lives, not by the run.
  • ⭐ A 1000 mm tail suits a driver in the same cabinet or immediately behind the detail. ⭐ 2000 mm reaches an adjacent cupboard or a ceiling access panel.
  • ⚠ Take the longer one if there is any doubt. ⭐ A tail that is too long can be coiled; one that is too short means a junction, which is another connection to fail and another thing to find room for.
  • ⭐ Domus also lists 500 mm tails elsewhere in the range, ⭐ so the family spans 500 mm to 2 m.
⛔ Two record faults on this listing
  • ⛔ It publishes a colour temperature of RGB. ⭐ A connector is wire and a clip. ⚠ It has no colour temperature, and six connector listings do this.
  • ⛔ It is flagged “made to order (cut to length)” — ⭐ from a generic sentence in the description. ⚠ A connector cannot be cut to length. ⭐ The STRIP can, which is what the sentence is really about.

Questions
Do I need to solder it?

No — Domus states that a pair of pliers is all that is needed. That is a bigger deal than it reads: soldering an LED strip on site requires an iron, power at the position, a steady hand at an awkward angle, and the risk of lifting a pad or overheating the strip. It is the step that most often goes wrong on a strip installation and the one an electrician is least equipped for.

How well does it hold?

4.64 kgf — roughly four and a half kilograms of straight pull, and Domus publishes the figure. Very few accessories in any catalogue state a retention force at all, and on a connection that will be tugged during installation it is exactly the right thing to state.

Will it fit inside my profile?

Yes — Domus states "connectors will fit inside the profile supplied", and that single sentence solves the problem that otherwise defines a strip installation. A joint or feed point that will not fit in the channel forces the strip out of the profile at exactly the place you least want a break. Here the connector goes in the channel with the strip.

Why is that not on the profile pages?

It is stated once, in this accessory listing, and nowhere on the profile pages where someone planning a run would actually look. That is worth knowing because the fit of a connector inside a channel is a planning question, not an accessory question.

Which tail length should I take?

Choose on the driver, not the strip — the tail is the cable from the strip to the driver, so its length is set by where the driver lives. 1000mm suits a driver in the same cabinet or immediately behind the detail; 2000mm reaches an adjacent cupboard or a ceiling access panel. Take the longer one if there is any doubt: a tail that is too long can be coiled, but one that is too short means a junction.

Does it work with IP67 strip?

Nothing published says. The description names "all our IP54 COB strip", and the IP67 strip is not mentioned — which matters because a cut in a sealed IP67 strip breaks the seal, and restoring it is a different operation. Ask us before ordering if your strip is IP67.

Why does it list a colour temperature?

It should not. This listing publishes a colour temperature of "RGB", and a connector is wire and a clip — it has no colour temperature. Six connector listings do the same. It is also flagged "made to order (cut to length)", which comes from a generic sentence about the strip; a connector cannot be cut to length.
