A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Domus PLEX-COB-5 is a true dotless COB LED strip drawing 5 W per metre from 24 V DC, with 640 LEDs per metre, CRI ≥90, a 180° spread and IP54. Sold per metre in 3000 K, 4000 K or 5000 K.
⚠ This is the quietest strip in the range, and that is the point of it. At 450–500 lumens per metre it produces roughly a quarter of what the 20 W version does.
| 5 W/m (this) | 10 W/m | 15 W/m | 20 W/m | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4000 K output | 500 lm/m | 900 lm/m | 1,500 lm/m | 2,000 lm/m |
✅ Choose it where the strip must be seen and not noticed — a shadow-line, a plinth, a stair riser, a bedhead reveal, a toe-kick. Choose it especially where the strip is close to the eye, because at this output you can look at the diffuser without discomfort.
⛔ Do not choose it to light a work surface. Under a kitchen cupboard onto a splashback you want 15 W/m. Tell us the job and we will size it — "COB" and "CRI 90" describe quality, not brightness, and it is easy to under-specify on the strength of them.
The datasheet's own footnote reads “Indoor Use Only — suitable for indoor wet areas”, and that qualifier is missing from the bare IP54 on our record.
⛔ This strip does not switch colour. There is a separate part number per colour temperature and our record's colour-changing flag is wrong. Cut and installed, it is the colour you ordered.
COB true-dotless LED strip, 640 LEDs per metre, 5 W per metre, 24 V DC. Sold per metre. Output 450 lm/m (3000 K), 500 lm/m (4000 K and 5000 K). ⛔ Colour temperature is fixed per part number — it does not switch. CRI ≥90, 180° spread, 50,000 hrs. Cuttable every 25 mm, wired in parallel. ⛔ Requires a 24 V DC constant-voltage LED driver — not included; dimming is done by the driver. IP54 — indoor use only, suitable for indoor wet areas. An IP67 version of this strip exists for exposed positions. ⚠ Maximum run length from one feed is not published — ask us. Warranty 3 years.

For what it is meant to do, yes — and for a work surface, no. At 450 to 500 lumens per metre it is roughly a quarter of the 20 W/m version, which makes it right for a shadow-line, a plinth, a stair riser, a toe-kick or a bedhead reveal, where the strip should be seen and not noticed. Under a kitchen cupboard onto a splashback you want the 15 W/m. Tell us the job and we will size it — "COB" and "CRI 90" describe quality rather than brightness, and it is easy to under-specify on the strength of them.
No — and this is worth being clear about. Same CRI ≥90, same 640 LEDs per metre, same dotless appearance, same 50,000-hour life. Only the output per metre differs. The low wattage brings its own advantages: long runs from one feed, a small cheap driver that is easier to hide in joinery, and very little heat in a sealed profile.
Longer than with any other strip in this range — at 5 W/m a ten-metre run draws only 50 W, where the same length of 20 W/m strip would draw 200 W and need feeding from both ends. The exact maximum from one feed is not published in any source we hold, so tell us the length and we will size the driver and set the feed points.
No. IP54 sounds like it might cover a soffit, but the datasheet's footnote reads "indoor use only — suitable for indoor wet areas", and that qualifier is missing from the bare IP54 on our record. Bathrooms, laundries, shower niches and splashbacks are fine. Domus makes an IP67 silicone-coated version of this same 5 W/m strip for exposed positions, and the two look identical on a reel — so tell us where it is going.
More than it does on a bright one, not less. A dim strip with visible dots reads as cheap; a dim dotless one reads as architectural. This is also the wattage most likely to sit in a shallow profile close to its diffuser, which is exactly the geometry where an ordinary SMD strip shows scalloping on the surface opposite it.
No. It needs a 24 V DC constant-voltage LED driver, bought separately and sized above the total load with headroom. At this wattage the driver is small and inexpensive. Tell us the run length and we will size it against the actual run rather than a reel length.
No, and our record is wrong about this. There is a separate part number for 3000 K, 4000 K and 5000 K, and once it is cut and installed it is the colour you ordered. Choose before you order — 3000 K for bedheads, plinths and living areas; 4000 K for bathrooms and joinery reveals; 5000 K for workshops.
