⭐ A metre is a sample — and it is worth buying one first

• ⭐ This family is otherwise sold on 20 m reels. ⭐ A 1 m length is the smallest useful quantity, and its real value is as a test piece.
• ⭐ Four things you cannot judge from a listing, and can judge from a metre:
  • ⭐ 1. The colour, against your actual materials. ⭐ CRI90 renders honestly, which means it will show you what your timber, stone or paint really looks like — ⚠ and that is sometimes not what the sample board suggested.
  • ⭐ 2. The brightness at your distance. ⭐ 14.4 W per metre is substantial, ⚠ and in a shallow cove it can be far more than the effect needs.
  • ⭐ 3. Whether it fits. ⭐ Flex has a bend radius, a section and a clip spacing, ⚠ and none of those is published. ⭐ A metre in your hand answers all three.
  • ⭐ 4. Whether the diffusion is what you expected. ⭐ Neon flex reads as a solid line rather than dots — ⭐ but how solid, and how bright the edge, differs between products.
• ⚠ A 20 m reel of the wrong flex is an expensive way to learn any of that, ⭐ and it is a made-to-order product, so it is not simply returnable.

⚠ This listing is RGB — read that before ordering

• ⭐ Its single option is RGB, not a white colour temperature — ⚠ although the colour-temperature field also lists 3000, 4000 and 5000 K, which is what a family-level field does.
• ⚠ Its title also carries CRI90, which is not a meaningful figure on an RGB source — ⭐ CRI describes how a WHITE source renders colour, and RGB mixes three narrow-band emitters. ⭐ The figure is inherited from the white versions.
• ⭐ If you want a white sample, ask us for the white 1 m version instead. ⭐ Testing an RGB metre tells you very little about how the CRI90 white will look on your materials — ⚠ which is the main thing a sample is for.

⭐ What a metre also lets you test that nothing published covers

⭐ The BEND RADIUS. ⭐ Flex bends, but not infinitely — ⚠ and forced past its limit it kinks, which shows as a bright or dark spot and can damage the emitter. ⛔ No minimum bend radius is published for any PLEO product. ⭐ A metre lets you find it on the bench rather than on the ceiling. ⭐ Bend it to your tightest intended curve and look at the lit result, not the unlit one — ⚠ a kink that is invisible switched off is obvious switched on.
