The Domus NOVA-17 SM is a surface-mounted aluminium LED profile, sold per metre — with a BLACK PMMA diffuser and end caps, in three finishes.
⭐ A black diffuser reads as a dark line when the strip is off, where opal reads as a white stripe. ⭐ In a dark ceiling, a black cabinet or a charcoal reveal, that is the whole point — ⭐ the profile disappears until it is lit. ⚠ It costs output and Domus does not publish how much. ⭐ So take black for accent and decorative runs, opal where you need to see.
⭐ No groove, so the recessed-width questions elsewhere in this family do not apply — ⭐ and at 17 mm wide the published surface figure matches the range name exactly. ⚠ What it does need is a straight run.
⛔ No strip, no driver. ⭐ Domus IP54 strip range.

Surface-mounted LED strip profile, sold per metre. 17 mm wide × 8 mm high, 3 m maximum continuous length. Flat black PMMA diffuser and end caps. Extruded aluminium in aluminium, black or white. For the Domus IP54 strip range. Order code LP-1707-SM-B. ⭐ 8mm IS THE SHALLOWEST IN THE FAMILY, AND THAT IS BOTH THE ADVANTAGE AND THE RISK. It barely projects, which under a thin shelf is the difference between a detail and a fitting. ⚠ But 8mm is little distance between LED and diffuser, and that distance is what turns separate LEDs into a line — so with a widely spaced strip this is the profile most likely to show dots. ⭐ THE FIX IS THE STRIP, NOT THE PROFILE: a high-density strip blends at less depth.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
8mm high, which is the shallowest of the Domus strip profiles — against 11mm on the Nova-20 and Nova-24, and 15mm on the Omega-17. Its surface profile is 17mm wide, which matches the range name exactly.
Because it barely projects. Under a thin shelf, inside a shallow reveal, or on a cabinet face where anything taller would look applied, 8mm is the difference between reading as a detail and reading as a fitting. If the joinery is delicate, this is the profile that respects it.
Because 8mm is not much distance between the LEDs and the diffuser, and that distance is what turns a row of separate LEDs into a continuous line. With a widely spaced strip this is the profile most likely to show dots — which is not fixable once the run is installed.
The fix is the strip, not the profile. A high-density strip — more LEDs per metre, closer together — blends at less depth. Domus publishes no LED density figure and no minimum depth, so tell us the strip you intend to use and we will say whether 8mm suits it. It is a two-minute conversation that prevents the one problem this profile has.
Slightly, and in your favour. A tinted diffuser scatters more than a clear one, so it hides dots a little better than you might expect — at the cost of output. So the black version of this shallow profile is a marginally safer choice for evenness than the opal, though for the opposite reason to why most people choose it.
When the off state matters. A black diffuser reads as a dark line when the strip is off, where opal reads as a white stripe — in a dark ceiling, a black cabinet or a charcoal reveal, that is the whole point, since the profile disappears until it is lit. It costs output and Domus does not publish how much, so take black for accent and decorative runs and opal where you need to see.
None — no groove, which also means the recessed-width questions elsewhere in this family do not apply here. What it does need is a straight run: the clips hold the profile true but cannot straighten a bowed shelf, and at this width any wave in the substrate shows in the line of light.
