⭐ A white body disappears into a plasterboard ceiling. ⭐ Take OPAL near eye level or FROSTED above head height — ⚠ prismatic and honeycomb are workplace optics that read technical in a home, and ⚠ clear is undiffused over a seated table. ⚠ Specify a dimmer: 3060 lm at full is task lighting, ⭐ and about a third of it is dining light.
1.7 m suspended LED linear pendant. 3060 lm, 34 W (90 lm/W), 3000 K, CRI90. IP20. 1700 mm. 3 m drop. PLEX-COB-20W strip, integral dimmable driver, DALI and emergency on request. White powder-coated aluminium body. Six finishes. 3-year replacement warranty. Order code MAXI-50-1.7M-W-3K. ⭐ SIZE IT AGAINST THE TABLE, NOT THE ROOM — about two-thirds of the surface. 1.2m/2160 lm suits 1.8m, 1.7m/3060 lm suits 2.5m, 2.4m/4320 lm suits 3.6m. ⭐ The proportion and the output rise together, so a longer table gets more light without a separate calculation. ⭐ Between sizes go SHORTER over dining and LONGER over a working surface.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
Against the table, not the room — that is the commonest sizing mistake with a linear pendant. A big room does not need a long pendant; a long table does. The proportion that works is about two-thirds of the surface length, so 1.2m suits about 1.8m at 2160 lumens, 1.7m suits about 2.5m at 3060 lumens, and 2.4m suits about 3.6m at 4320 lumens.
Less than you might think, because the proportion and the output rise together. A longer table gets a longer fitting and proportionally more light in the same step — every length runs the same strip at the same lumens per watt, so the lumens-per-metre of table stays roughly constant across the ladder. For a lux target across a room that still needs a proper calculation; for a table it largely takes care of itself.
Shorter, for a dining table. A pendant slightly short of two-thirds reads as deliberate, where one approaching the full table length reads as an accident — the eye compares the two directly and a near-match looks like a failed match. So at about 3m, take the 1.7m rather than the 2.4m.
No — that is the exception. Over a working surface rather than a dining one, even light across the whole length matters more than the proportion, because you prepare food at the ends as well as the middle. There, go longer. The rule is about how it looks over a dining table and how it works over a bench.
Stop scaling up and use two pendants with a deliberate gap of half a fitting length or more, so it reads as a rhythm rather than a continuous run that failed to join. A small gap is the uncomfortable case, because it looks like the run was meant to meet and did not.
Opal near eye level for the most uniform face, or frosted above head height for more output. Prismatic and honeycomb are workplace optics — they exist to control glare over screens — and both read technical in a home. Clear is undiffused and will glare over a seated table.
Over a dining table, yes. 3060 lumens at full output is task lighting, and about a third of it is dining light. It ships with an integral dimmable driver, but the minimum level is not published — tell us your dimmer and the level you want in the evening and we will confirm it.
