  • ⭐ A prismatic diffuser is a clear panel moulded with a repeating pattern of small prisms. ⭐ Each prism refracts the light passing through it, bending steep rays back towards the vertical.
  • ⭐ So it does not scatter light the way frosted does — it REDIRECTS it. ⭐ Output that would have left at a shallow angle leaves closer to straight down.
  • ⭐ That is why it is the office finish: ⭐ the reflection you see in a monitor is shallow-angle light from a fitting behind you, ⭐ and a prismatic panel sends most of it down onto the desk where you wanted it. ⭐ The light is kept, not lost.
  • ⚠ And that is also why it is wrong here. ⭐ The moulded pattern is visible — a faceted, technical-looking face ⭐ that reads as a workplace fitting no matter how warm the light through it is.

Questions
What does "prismatic" actually mean?

It is a clear panel moulded with a repeating pattern of small prisms, and each prism refracts the light passing through it, bending steep rays back towards the vertical. So it does not scatter light the way frosted does — it redirects it. Output that would have left at a shallow angle leaves closer to straight down, which is why it is the office finish: the reflection you see in a monitor is shallow-angle light from a fitting behind you, and a prismatic panel sends most of it onto the desk instead.

Why is prismatic wrong in a bar?

Because the moulded pattern is visible. It gives a faceted, technical-looking face that reads as a workplace fitting no matter how warm the light through it is, which undoes the atmosphere the 3000K was chosen for. Take opal or frosted instead: you give up the glare control and gain a fitting that belongs in the room.

How do the glare-controlling finishes differ?

By what happens to the light. Frosted and opal scatter shallow-angle light — it is kept but still emitted at that angle. Prismatic redirects it downward, so it is kept and put to use. A honeycomb absorbs it, so it is lost. Prismatic is therefore the efficient answer and honeycomb the thorough one, and which to choose depends on how strict the requirement is. With no UGR figure published for either, that is a judgement rather than a calculation.

Which finish over a bar?

Opal if the fitting sits near eye level, since it gives the most uniform face; frosted above head height for more output. Not prismatic, for the reason above. Not clear, which is an undiffused source over seated guests. The black diffuser is an option if you want the fitting to disappear when it is off.

Do I need a dimmer?

Yes. 3060 lumens at full output is service light — right for prep and stocktake and too much during service. Dimmed to roughly a quarter it becomes evening light. It ships with an integral dimmable driver and DALI is available on request, but the minimum level is not published. Tell us your control and the level you want during service.

Why CRI90 over a bar?

Because warm light and accurate colour usually pull against each other, and most commercial linear at 3000K publishes CRI80 where reds flatten. Over a bar that is exactly what shows in a garnish, a cocktail or a cut of meat. CRI90 means the fitting that disappears against a dark ceiling also renders the food properly.

Will 1.7m suit my bar?

It suits a bar or communal table of about 2.5m — roughly two-thirds the length, which lights evenly without overhanging the ends. For a longer bar, two with a deliberate gap read better than one fitting stretched, and the gap should be half a fitting length or more.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations
