The Domus Maxi 50 is a 1.7 m suspended LED linear pendant — 34 W, 3060 lm, 3000 K at CRI90, dimmable, in an aluminium body, in six finishes.

  • ⚠ Clear is the finish most often warned against, ⭐ and on most linear fittings that warning is right — an undiffused strip of discrete LEDs is a row of bright points, which is uncomfortable to sit under.
  • ⭐ This range is different, and it matters here. ⭐ The engine is a PLEX-COB-20W strip — chip-on-board, a continuous phosphor layer — ⭐ so behind clear glass you see a continuous lit bar, not a row of dots.
  • ⭐ That widens the case for clear from “almost never” to “where an uninterrupted line of light is the point”: ⭐ a void, a stairwell, a foyer, a retail display, a shopfront run.

Is the clear finish ever the right choice?

More often than on most linear fittings, and the reason is the engine. On a strip of discrete LEDs, clear glass gives a row of bright points which is uncomfortable to sit under. Here the engine is a PLEX-COB-20W — chip-on-board, a continuous phosphor layer — so behind clear glass you see a continuous lit bar rather than dots. That widens the case from "almost never" to "where an uninterrupted line of light is the point": a void, a stairwell, a foyer, a retail display, a shopfront run.

So clear is safe now?

No — it is still an undiffused source. The luminance is high and it will glare from below, so keep it well above the eye line and away from anywhere people sit. What has changed is the character of the problem: it is a bright continuous bar rather than a row of points, which is a different and slightly more forgiving kind of glare, not an absence of it.

Does clear give more light?

It passes the most of the six, because a diffuser you can see through absorbs less than one you cannot. But Domus publishes one output figure for the listing — 3060 lumens — rather than one per finish, so that is a direction rather than a number. Ask us and we will get the per-finish set from Domus.

How do the six finishes compare?

By how much they diffuse: clear does not diffuse at all and passes the most; frosted is a light diffusion; prismatic refracts rather than scatters, redirecting shallow-angle light downward; opal is dense and gives the most uniform face while passing less; honeycomb blocks light above a cut-off angle; and black is a tint that passes the least. That ranking is by mechanism rather than by measurement.

Can I plan spacing from the 120 degree beam angle?

No. It is recorded identically for all six finishes, which cannot be true across a set including a cellular baffle and a clear lens — a honeycomb narrows the emission by design and a clear lens does not diffuse at all. It is a range default rather than a per-finish measurement. Ask us for the real figure before setting out a run.

Will 1.7m suit my table?

It suits about 2.5m of surface — roughly two-thirds the length, which lights evenly without overhanging the ends. All three lengths in the range run the same strip at the same lumens per watt, so the choice is about the space rather than efficiency.

Is aluminium right against my ceiling?

Against timber, concrete or exposed structure, yes — a metal tube is sympathetic and reads as part of the palette. Against white plasterboard it reads as a grey line, and the white listing is the one that recedes there.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations
