The Domus Maxi 40 is a 1.2 m suspended LED linear pendant — 24 W, 2400 lm, 4000 K at CRI90, dimmable, in a white body with a low diffuser.

Can this replace a 4ft fluorescent batten?

It is a sensible replacement, and now the comparison can be made properly. Input power drops from about 85W for a twin 36W batten with gear to 24W. Efficacy rises from roughly 59 lumens per watt at the lamp to 100. Colour rendering improves from a typical CRI80 to 85 up to CRI90. And the flicker and warm-up of a fluorescent tube go away.

But the batten produces more lumens — is this a downgrade?

The raw comparison is misleading. A bare fluorescent lamp's output is measured at the lamp, and an open batten throws a large share of it sideways and upward where it does little work. This fitting's 2400 lumens is directed downward at 120 degrees, so far more of it reaches the working plane. Compare the working plane rather than the datasheet — though we would still not claim a one-for-one swap without checking your space. Tell us the mounting height and the existing fitting and we will work it through.

What changes physically?

Three things. It is suspended rather than surface-mounted, so it hangs below the ceiling where a batten sat against it — a 3m drop is supplied and shortened on site. The fixing is different: suspension points into structure rather than screws into the ceiling lining, and the spacing and weight are not published. And there is no lamp, so when it fails the fitting is replaced.

What should I tell the maintenance team?

That there is no tube to change. The old batten had lamps replaced periodically; this has none, so a failure means a new fitting. A 3-year replacement warranty covers the early years, and the rated lifespan is not published — worth asking us for if you are building a maintenance schedule around it.

Is 4000K the right choice for a retrofit?

Usually, because it is close to what a standard fluorescent tube delivered, so the room does not change character. 3000K in a space people are used to seeing under cool white reads as dim even when it is not. It is also the more efficient option here at 2400 lumens against the 3000K version's 2160 for the same 24W.

Will the colour rendering be noticeably better?

Yes, and it is one of the clearer wins. CRI90 against a typical fluorescent CRI80 to 85 means materials, print and finishes read more accurately — reds in particular, which is where lower-CRI sources fall down most visibly. In a workroom or a space where anything is inspected, that is a real improvement rather than a specification detail.

Can I use it in a damp space?

No — IP20, dry interior only. Many batten locations are damp or dusty, so this is worth checking before a like-for-like swap. For those positions, ask us about the Domus IMPACT range at IP66 and IK10.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.
