Domus KEY-PAR38 Frosted Reflector Shape

The Domus KEY-PAR38 is a 16 W LED reflector globe in the PAR38 shape on an E27 base, IP44, with a 36° beam and a frosted lens, in 3000 K or 5000 K.

What PAR38 means and why it matters here

• PAR38 is a reflector lamp — the reflector is built into the globe, so the beam is shaped by the lamp rather than by the fitting.
• ✅ That is what lets it work in a plain open holder: a bare batten holder under an eave will throw a proper 36° beam with this lamp in it, where an ordinary globe would spill light in every direction.
• Ø120 × 131 mm — ⚠ it is a large lamp. Check it against the fitting's internal clearance and against any shade or guard.
• The frosted lens softens the edge of the beam and hides the LED array, so it does not read as a bright point when looked at directly.

The 36° beam

• ✅ A medium beam — genuinely directional. At three metres it lights a circle of roughly two metres across.
• ✅ Right for lighting a specific thing: a doorway, a gate, a parking bay, a shed entrance, a piece of planting.
• ⛔ Wrong for lighting an area. If you want a whole yard covered, this will leave a bright circle and dark edges — ask us for a floodlight instead.
• 1,350 lm at 3000 K, 1,400 lm at 5000 K from 16 W.

⛔ It is not dimmable

The datasheet is explicit, and this is worth flagging because a 16 W lamp on a domestic circuit is exactly the sort people assume will dim.

⚠ A non-dimmable lamp on a dimmed circuit does not simply stay bright — it can flicker, buzz, or fail early. Check the circuit before ordering, and tell us if it is dimmed so we can suggest an alternative.

Choosing between the two colours

• 3000 K — 1,350 lm. A house entry, a gate, a garden, a carport. Warm light outdoors reads as light.
• 5000 K — 1,400 lm. Marginally brighter, and much colder. Security, sheds, workshops and parking areas.
• ⚠ There is no 4000 K in this lamp, so it is a two-way choice rather than the three most of this catalogue offers.

What it replaces

• Roughly a 120 W halogen PAR38 at about an eighth of the power, and without the heat — which matters in a sealed exterior fitting.
• 30,000 hours, below the 50,000 of the GU10 and MR16 lamps in this range but respectable for a high-output reflector.
• CRI ≥80, SMD.

Where it works

• ✅ Open exterior E27 holders — batten holders under an eave, bulkheads, spotlight housings.
• ✅ Lighting something specific: a doorway, gate, parking bay, shed entrance, planting.
• ✅ Damp indoor positions — a garage, a shed, a laundry.
• ⛔ Not on a dimmed circuit.
• ⛔ Not for lighting a whole area — 36° leaves dark edges.
• ⚠ Check the fitting's clearance — Ø120 × 131 mm is a large lamp.
