A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Domus KEY-MR16-TRIO is a 6 W LED globe in the MR16 shape, 12 V DC, with a 60° beam and switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 6500 K set by a dip switch on the globe.
✅ Two MR16 globes in this range, and they trade off in opposite directions. Nothing on either page said so, and choosing wrongly is a ladder trip.
| KEY-MR16-TRIO (this) | KEY-MR16-GLASS | |
|---|---|---|
| Colour | ✅ 3 switchable on the globe | 2 fixed, chosen at order |
| Dimming | ⛔ Not dimmable | ✅ Dimmable |
| Body | Polycarbonate | ✅ Glass — does not yellow |
| Power / output | 6 W, 500–550 lm | 4.7 W, 390–420 lm |
| Life | ✅ 50,000 hrs | 15,000 hrs |
If the circuit is dimmed, you need the GLASS. If it is switched, this one is brighter, lasts three times as long, and lets you change colour without buying new lamps.
The datasheet is explicit. The colour dip switch is not a dimmer — it selects one of three temperatures before installation and does nothing afterwards.
⚠ Putting a non-dimmable lamp on a dimmed circuit does not simply fail to dim: it can flicker, buzz, or shorten the lamp's life. If the circuit has a dimmer on it, choose the KEY-MR16-GLASS instead and tell us the dimmer so we can check the driver too.
6 W LED globe, MR16 shape, polycarbonate, 12 V DC. ⛔ Requires a 12 V DC constant-voltage LED driver — not included. Output 500 lm at 3000 K, 550 lm at 4000 K and 6500 K, switchable by a dip switch on the globe. 60° beam, CRI ≥80, SMD, 50,000 hrs, IP20. ⛔ Not dimmable. Warranty 3 years.
✅ Its stablemate the KEY-MR16-GLASS is dimmable, in a glass body, at 4.7 W with two fixed colours and a 15,000-hour life. Choose by whether the circuit is dimmed.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No — this one is not dimmable, and the datasheet is explicit. The colour dip switch is not a dimmer: it selects one of three temperatures before installation and does nothing afterwards. They trade off in opposite directions. This one is 6 W, gives 500–550 lumens, switches between three colour temperatures on the globe, lasts 50,000 hours, and is not dimmable. The GLASS is 4.7 W, gives 390–420 lumens, comes in two fixed colours, lasts 15,000 hours, has a glass body that does not yellow — and is dimmable. If the circuit is dimmed you need the GLASS; if it is switched, this one is brighter and lasts three times as long.
Yes — a 12 V DC constant-voltage LED driver, and it is not included. MR16 is the two-pin low-voltage base, so this will not fit or work in a 240 V GU10 holder.
Usually not, and this is where most low-voltage LED retrofits go wrong. An iron-core or electronic halogen transformer is a different device from an LED driver, and running an LED globe from one typically shows up as flicker, buzz or a lamp that will not strike. Tell us what is behind the fitting and we will say whether it needs changing.
A dip switch on the globe itself, set before it goes into the fitting. That is genuinely useful in a rental or a room whose use is undecided — buy one, try it in the space, then set the rest to match. Do the whole run the same way before they go up, because one lamp on the wrong setting in a row of downlights is unmissable.
For living spaces, yes. It is a cold daylight white, colder than the 5000 to 5700 K most of this catalogue offers as its third step, and it belongs in garages, workshops and inspection work. In a home the useful settings are 3000 K for living areas and 4000 K for kitchens and laundries.
It will be wider. This is 60° where a halogen MR16 typically threw around 36°. That suits general room lighting and washing a surface — fewer dark gaps and a softer edge to each pool — but if you were using a narrow halogen to pick out artwork, this will spread more than you expect.
