The Domus KEY-MR16-GLASS is a 4.7 W LED globe in the MR16 shape, 12 V DC, with a 60° beam and a glass body, in 3000 K or 5000 K.

✅ It is a direct size replacement for a conventional halogen MR16 — same Ø50 mm face, same 46 mm depth, same two-pin low-voltage base. It drops into the fitting the halogen came out of.

⛔ What it needs is a proper LED driver. It runs on 12 V DC and requires a constant-voltage LED driver, which is not included.

⚠ Your existing halogen transformer is probably not one. An iron-core or electronic halogen transformer is a different device, and driving an LED globe from one is the usual cause of flicker, buzz, or a lamp that will not strike. Tell us what is behind the fitting and we will tell you whether it needs changing — it is the single most common reason a low-voltage LED retrofit disappoints.

Glass, not plastic — and why it matters on an MR16
  • ✅ A glass body dissipates heat and does not yellow. Plastic MR16 globes discolour with age, which shifts the light warm and dims it in a way that creeps up on you.
  • ✅ It also looks right in an open or clear fitting, where a plastic lamp reads as a substitute.
  • Ø50 × 46 mm — the conventional MR16 envelope.
What it replaces, and what it gives
  • 390 lm at 3000 K, 420 lm at 5000 K from 4.7 W — roughly a 35 W halogen MR16 at about an eighth of the power, and without the heat.
  • 60° beam — a wide flood, wider than the 36° a halogen MR16 typically threw. ✅ Better for general lighting and washing a surface; ⛔ not a narrow accent beam, so if you were picking out artwork with a 24° halogen this will spread more than you expect.
  • CRI ≥80, SMD, IP20.
Choosing between the two colours
  • 3000 K — 390 lm. Living areas, bedrooms, display cabinets, anywhere the light is meant to feel warm.
  • 5000 K — 420 lm. The brighter of the two. Garages, workshops, inspection and task areas.
  • ⚠ There is no 4000 K in this globe, which is the setting most of this catalogue offers as the middle ground. It is a two-way choice, not three.
Dimming and lifespan
  • Fully dimmable with suitable dimmers — but on a low-voltage circuit the driver has to support dimming too. ⚠ The dimmer, the driver and the lamp all have to agree; buying a dimmable globe alone achieves nothing. Ask us and we will specify the chain.
  • ⚠ 15,000 hours, a third of the 50,000 an integrated LED fitting quotes — normal for a retrofit lamp in a sealed housing. At three hours a night, around thirteen years.

Questions
Will it fit my existing MR16 downlights?

Yes, physically — it is a direct size replacement for a conventional halogen MR16, with the same Ø50 mm face, 46 mm depth and two-pin low-voltage base. It drops into the fitting the halogen came out of. What may need changing is what is behind the fitting.

Can I use my existing halogen transformer?

Usually not, and this is where most low-voltage LED retrofits go wrong. The globe needs a 12 V DC constant-voltage LED driver. An iron-core or electronic halogen transformer is a different device, and running an LED globe from one typically shows up as flicker, buzz, or a lamp that will not strike. Tell us what is behind the fitting and we will tell you whether it needs replacing.

Is the driver included?

No — it is sold separately. Tell us how many globes you are running and we will size a driver for the whole circuit rather than per fitting, which is usually cheaper and always tidier.

Will the beam be the same as my halogen?

Wider. This is a 60° flood, where a halogen MR16 typically threw around 36°. That is better for general lighting and for washing a surface evenly, but if you were using a narrow halogen to pick out artwork or a feature, this will spread more than you expect. Ask us if you need a tighter beam.

Why glass rather than plastic?

It dissipates heat better and it does not yellow. Plastic MR16 globes discolour with age, which shifts the light warm and dims it gradually enough that you do not notice until you replace one. Glass also simply looks right in an open or clear fitting, where a plastic lamp reads as a substitute.

Which colour should I choose?

3000 K for living areas, bedrooms and display cabinets — warm and the default in a home. 5000 K for garages, workshops and inspection work, and it is the brighter of the two at 420 lumens against 390. Note there is no 4000 K in this globe, so it is a two-way choice rather than the three most of this catalogue offers.

Can I dim it?

Yes, with suitable dimmers — but on a low-voltage circuit the driver has to support dimming as well as the dimmer and the lamp. All three have to agree, and buying a dimmable globe on its own achieves nothing. Tell us how you want to control it and we will specify the whole chain.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

We reserve the right to refuse a return in cases where we cannot be reasonably satisfied that you purchased the product from us or where we are not responsible for the damage in accordance with our Faults & damages policy.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
