Domus DRIVER-12V-IP67

The Domus DRIVER-12V-IP67 is an outdoor-rated 12 V DC constant-voltage LED driver — nine sizes from 20 W to 500 W, IP67, non-dimmable, complete with a 1 m flex and plug.

How to size one — the rule that stops drivers failing early

Add up the wattage of everything on the run, then add 20%.

• Ten 5 W spike lights = 50 W. Add 20% and you want a 60 W driver, not a 60 W load on a 60 W driver.
• Why: a driver run permanently at its ceiling gets hot, and heat is what kills electronics. Headroom is the difference between a driver that lasts and one that does not.
• ⚠ Do not undersize and hope. An overloaded driver will flicker, shut down on thermal protection, or fail.
• ⚠ Do not massively oversize either — a 500 W driver running a 20 W load is inefficient and wasteful.

✅ Tell us the fittings and the run length and we will size it with you. Voltage drop over a long cable run matters too, and that is not something a wattage total captures.

Constant voltage, and why 12 V

• Constant voltage means it holds a steady 12 V and the fittings draw what they need. That is what LED strip and most garden fittings are built for. ⚠ It is not interchangeable with a constant-current driver, which is what many downlights use. Check what your fitting needs.
• Parallel wiring — fittings connect across the driver, not in a chain, so one failing does not take the run down.
• 12 V is safe to run through a garden. That is the real advantage of low voltage: cabling can be run with far less protection than mains, and a spade through a 12 V cable is an inconvenience rather than an emergency.

IP67 — and what the other numbers mean

• IP67 — dust tight and protected against temporary immersion. That is a genuinely high rating: it can sit in a garden bed, in a pit, or anywhere that floods briefly.
• −40 °C to +60 °C, 20–90% humidity, non-condensing.
• Efficiency up to 89% — the share of mains power that reaches the lights rather than becoming heat.
• Power factor >0.95 — high, and it matters on a large installation.
• Protection: short circuit, thermal overload, over-temperature and over-voltage.

⚠ Even at IP67, mount it where you can reach it. A driver is the part most likely to need replacing, and one buried under a paved path is a problem for later.
