The Domus CHAM-DIM-DALI-5C is a 5-channel DALI dimming interface for 12–24 V DC constant-voltage LED — the component that lets a building automation system drive LED strip, including RGB, RGBW and RGB+TW.

⭐ What it actually does in a control chain
  • It accepts a standard DALI signal from any automation system and converts it to PWM output for constant-voltage LED. ⭐ That conversion is the whole job — DALI is a digital bus, LED strip needs pulse-width modulation, and nothing else in the chain bridges the two.
  • 1 to 5 channels, so one unit covers single colour (1 channel), tuneable white (2), RGB (3), RGBW (4) or RGB+TW (5).
  • ⭐ Auto or manual addressing. Auto is faster on a large install; manual is what you want when the channel order has to match a drawing.
  • Digital display on the housing — ⭐ which matters more than it sounds. Commissioning a DALI address without a display means working blind from the automation end.
⛔ It is not a driver, and it does not power anything
  • A constant-voltage 12–24 V DC LED driver is required and is not included. The interface sits between the driver and the strip.
  • ⭐ The chain is: DALI system → this interface → constant-voltage driver → LED strip. Missing the driver is the usual reason one of these arrives and nothing lights.
  • Output capacity 5 × (60–180) W depending on the supply voltage — at 12 V each channel carries less than at 24 V. ⚠ Size the driver to the actual load per channel, not to the interface’s maximum.
  • Standby consumption 2 mA on the DALI bus — ⭐ worth having when you are counting devices against a bus limit, because DALI segments have a finite current budget.

  • ⛔ “Colour temperature: RGB”. RGB is not a colour temperature. ⭐ On an RGB product that entry is at least understandable — there is no fixed Kelvin figure to give — but it means anyone filtering by colour temperature sees “RGB” offered as one. 22 products in this catalogue carry it, including two cable connectors.
  • ⛔ “Built-in LED” as the bulb type, on a control interface with no LED in it at all. The tenth product found carrying a lamp type on hardware with no lamp.

  • Commercial and residential automation — anywhere a DALI system needs to drive LED strip rather than DALI luminaires.

Questions
Does it come with a driver?

No, and this is the usual reason one arrives and nothing lights. It is an interface, not a driver — it sits between your DALI system and the LED strip and converts the signal, but it does not power anything. You need a constant-voltage 12–24V DC LED driver as well. The chain is: DALI system, then this interface, then the driver, then the strip. Tell us the load and we will size the driver with you.

What can it control?

Anything from single-colour strip to RGB+TW, because it has five channels you can use one to five of: one channel for single colour, two for tuneable white, three for RGB, four for RGBW and five for RGB+TW. That is the reason to choose it over a simpler dimmer — one component covers every strip type you are likely to specify in a job.

How much load can it carry?

5 × (60–180)W depending on supply voltage — each channel carries less at 12V than at 24V. Size the driver to the actual load per channel rather than to the interface's maximum, which is a ceiling rather than a target. If you are running long strip runs or several zones from one point, tell us the layout and we will work through it.

Will it fit in my enclosure?

The housing is 170 × 59 × 29mm, which is worth allowing for properly — at 170mm long it is not a component you tuck behind a plate as an afterthought. It is white plastic and designed for an indoor enclosure. No IP rating is recorded, so do not put it anywhere damp without asking us first.

Why does it matter that it has a digital display?

Commissioning. Setting a DALI address on a device with no display means working blind from the automation end and hoping the right unit responded. A display on the housing lets the person at the ceiling see what they are addressing, which on an installation with several interfaces is the difference between a straightforward commissioning session and a slow one.

What does the 2mA consumption figure mean for me?

DALI bus segments have a finite current budget, and every device on the bus draws from it. At 2mA this interface is light, so you can fit a good number of them on a segment before the power supply becomes the limit. It is the sort of figure that only matters when you are counting devices — but when you are, it matters a lot.

Can I use it with 240V LED?

No. It is a 12–24V DC constant-voltage device, and mains-voltage LED products need a different approach entirely. If you have a DALI system and mains-voltage fittings, tell us what they are and we will find the right control component — often the fitting itself is available in a DALI version, which is simpler than adding an interface.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
