DOMUS BF-2013 Raw Ceramic Interior Wall Light

The Domus BF-2013 is a raw ceramic wall uplight made in Italy, 175 mm wide, 160 mm high and 90 mm deep, taking a single G9 lamp and designed to be painted to match the wall.

⚠ The wattage: 60 W, and what to make of it

• The datasheet gives 60 W and requires one G9. ✅ Our record agrees.
• ⚠ But the same 60 W appears on the range's TWO-lamp fittings, which cannot both be right for a single holder and a pair. Across seven BF ceramics the two-lamp models read 60 W consistently and the single-lamp models do not agree with each other.
• ⛔ So the figure on a single-lamp ceramic is the least reliable in the range. Ask us if you intend to run near it — 60 W in a single G9 is a great deal of heat inside a ceramic shell.
• ✅ A 4 W LED G9 gives roughly what a 40 W halogen did, runs cool, and removes the question entirely.

The smallest of the ceramics, and where that suits

• 175 mm wide against the BF-2014's 350 mm and the BF-2440's 300 mm. ✅ It is the compact one.
• ✅ That suits a narrow pier, a stair wall between openings, or a position where a wider fitting would crowd the space — and it suits being repeated up a stairwell, where a run of small uplights reads better than a run of large ones.
• ⚠ One lamp rather than two means a narrower wash. On a broad wall it will light a column rather than a band. For a wide wall the two-lamp BF-2014 is the better fitting.
• 90 mm projection — modest, but check it on a narrow corridor.

It is meant to disappear

• ✅ Raw ceramic is supplied unpainted and takes any water-based paint, so it finishes in the exact colour of the wall and reads as a lit recess.
• ✅ Paint it before it goes up, at the same time as the wall so the sheen matches.
• ⚠ Repainting the room later means repainting the fitting.
• ⚠ Ceramic chips. Handle it before painting, not after.

What an uplight does to a room

• All the light goes up the wall and across the ceiling — a soft wash, a bright ceiling, and no visible source.
• ✅ It makes a low ceiling feel higher, which is the reason to use one in a hallway or stairwell rather than a downlight.
• ✅ Zero glare. Nothing to look into, so it works on a wall people walk towards.
• ⛔ Not a reading light, and not a room's only light.
• ⚠ It shows every flaw in the wall above it.

Choosing the lamp

• ✅ An LED G9 at 4 W — cool-running, and it removes the wattage question.
• ✅ High CRI if the wall is a colour. A cheap G9 flattens a painted wall; CRI ≥90 does not.
• 3000 K in a hallway or living space; 2700 K if the room is warmer.
• ⚠ If you repeat these up a stairwell, use identical globes — a run of uplights is seen at once and a colour mismatch between them is unmissable.
• ⚠ Dimming depends on the globe, not the fitting. A single 4 W G9 is a very small load and will often sit below a dimmer's minimum. Ask us.

Where it works

• ✅ Narrow piers, stair walls and positions where a wider fitting would crowd.
• ✅ Repeated up a stairwell — small uplights read better in a run.
• ✅ Walls being painted anyway.
• ⛔ Not a broad wall — the two-lamp BF-2014 is the fitting for that.
• ⛔ Not bathrooms or outdoors — raw ceramic, indoor rated.
• ⚠ Ask us before running near 60 W in a single G9.

⚠ 60 W is recorded for a single G9, and the same 60 W appears on this range's two-lamp fittings — the single-lamp figures in this range do not reconcile with each other, so this is the least reliable wattage in it. Ask us before running near it. ⚠ Our record flags this fitting as colour-changing; it has no LED, only a lamp holder.
