DOMUS CHESTER POST TOP B22

The Domus CHESTER post top is an exterior lantern that sits on top of a post — 470 mm high, 235 mm across, die-cast aluminium with a moulded acrylic lens, taking one B22 bayonet lamp, in beige, black, burgundy, green or white. Made in Italy, assembled and powder coated in Australia.

Domus builds this fitting to order and asks for up to 10 business days for production before it ships. It is not picked off a shelf.

• ⭐ That is the trade-off for the finish choice. The body is powder-coated in the colour you pick after you order, which is why the range offers five rather than one stocked colour.
• ⚠ Plan the lead time into the job. If it is needed for a handover, a settlement or a booked electrician, tell us the date when you order and we will confirm the production window with Domus.
• ⚠ Order the whole set together. On a property using several of these, a second order placed later starts its own ten days — and a later powder-coat batch is not guaranteed to match the first.

Chester or Turin? They are near-identical, and one difference matters

Domus offer two modular exterior ranges that read almost the same on paper — both die-cast aluminium with moulded acrylic lenses, both made in Italy and finished in Australia, both IP43, both in the same five colours, both with a one-year warranty.

The recorded difference is in the post configurations:

• Turin — single head on 1.32 / 1.96 / 2.37 m; twin on 1.49 / 2.11 / 2.47 m; triple on 2.47 m.
• ✅ Chester — the same, plus a 2.4 m “curved arm” option on both the twin and triple heads.

✅ A curved arm is a different look entirely — the heads hang from a sweep rather than sitting on straight brackets, which is the traditional street-lantern form. If that is the appearance you want, Chester is the range that offers it.

⚠ Beyond that the two are visually different lanterns, and the choice is about which shape suits the house. Ask us and we will show you both.

⚠ IP43 — and on a post top it is worth checking

Spraying water down to 60° from vertical.

• ✅ Rain from above is within it — the ordinary case for something sitting on a pier.
• ⚠ Driving rain arrives closer to horizontal and is outside 60°. On an open, wind-exposed pier this fitting is at the edge of its rating.
• ⛔ Not for hosing, coastal spray or sprinkler overspray — and a post top on a low pier can catch sprinkler throw.

If the position is exposed, ask us for an IP44 or IP65 alternative — the PILLA-CUBE at IP65 is one, if a contemporary cube suits the house.

470 mm on a pier — proportion

• At 470 mm high and 235 mm across it is slightly shorter and wider than the Turin post top (485 × 105 mm) — a fuller, less slender lantern.
• ✅ That suits a broader pier, where a narrow lantern can look under-scaled.
• ⚠ It still needs a pier with presence. On a low garden wall, half a metre of lantern looks out of scale — a bollard or a sphere sits better.
• ✅ In pairs, either side of a gate.

Choosing the lamp — not supplied

• One B22. Behind the moulded acrylic lens it is diffused, so shape does not matter.
• Warm 2700–3000 K.
• Around 700–1,000 lm.
• ⚠ Rated for enclosed fixtures and outdoor use.

Where it works

• Gate piers and masonry columns — in pairs.
• Broader piers, where a slender lantern would look under-scaled.
• Traditional and heritage entries — particularly burgundy, beige or green.
• ✅ As part of a Chester scheme with curved-arm twin or triple heads.
• ⛔ IP43 — ask us if the pier is open and exposed.
