Cell-D90 - Deep 90Mm Cut-Out Frame To Suit Cell Downlight Module Series

The Domus CELL-D90 is a deep 90 mm cut-out frame for the CELL downlight module series, 90 × 90 × 70 mm, in black or white.

What "deep" means here, and why you would want it

• 70 mm deep, against 50 mm for the CELL-S1 slotter frame.
• ✅ Depth sets the lamp back from the ceiling line, which reduces glare at a shallow viewing angle — the geometry that makes a flush downlight uncomfortable when you walk towards a run of them.
• ✅ It also shades the aperture, so the fitting reads as a dark recess when off rather than a lit-looking hole.
• ⚠ The trade-off is void depth: 70 mm for the frame, plus the module and driver above it. On a retrofit, check what is above the existing hole before assuming a like-for-like swap.

Frame and module, or a complete downlight?

• ✅ Frame plus module where you want to choose the beam angle — the module comes in 15°, 24°, 36° and 60°, where the assembled CELL downlights are 60° only.
• ✅ Frame plus module where maintenance access matters, or where the ceiling goes in now and the fitting later.
• ✅ A complete CELL-9-D90 or CELL-13-D90 where you want one part number — those take a Ø90–92 mm cutout, so the two routes are compatible on the same hole.
• ⚠ A frame is not a light. The module and driver are separate.

Which module goes in it

• CELL-9 (9 W) for standard ceilings and general residential lighting; CELL-13 (13 W) for higher ceilings and commercial spaces.
• ✅ Both Trio modules are Ø49.9 × 56 mm; ⚠ DALI versions are 68 mm, so allow for that above the frame.
• ✅ Five switchable colour temperatures including 2700 K, whichever you choose — and on a staged renovation that lets you match the rooms you have not reached yet.
• ⭐ The CELL modules carry an IC-4 rating on their datasheets. Tell us the assembly and we will confirm it in writing if insulation contact matters.

Planning the installation

• Cut Ø90 mm, or use the existing hole on a retrofit.
• The frame body is 90 × 90 mm, so it needs that much clearance between joists or battens.
• Allow 70 mm for the frame, plus the module and driver above.
• ✅ Black recedes into the aperture and reduces the apparent glare of the module behind it; white disappears into a white ceiling. Match the frame to the module.

Where it works

• ✅ Retrofits into existing Ø90 mm ceilings — the main reason to choose it.
• ✅ Hallways and corridors, where the depth reduces glare at a shallow angle.
• ✅ Where you want a beam angle other than 60°.
• ✅ Where the module type may need to change later without touching the ceiling.
• ⛔ Not a light — the CELL module and driver are separate.
• ⚠ Check the void above an existing hole: 70 mm plus the module.
