The Domus CARTER-DL is a paper rope desk lamp on matt black metalware, with a Ø170 mm shade, 555 mm tall, taking a single E27 lamp, in black or natural.

✅ It is the tall, narrow one in the CARTER family — and that changes where it belongs.

A tall narrow shade throws a tighter, more contained pool of light than a wide low one — which is what you want over a desk, a hall console or a tall bedside table, where a broad wash would spill across the room.

⚠ At 555 mm on a desk it is taller than most desk lamps. The bottom of the shade sits above the eyeline of someone seated at a standard desk, so use an opal globe or you will be looking at a filament while you work.

⛔ Maximum 25 W — and it is a fibre shade
  • Most E27 fittings take 60 W. This one takes 25 W, because paper rope is a natural fibre wrapped close around the lamp.
  • ✅ With LED you lose nothing. A 9–11 W LED E27 gives roughly what a 60 W incandescent did and runs cool.
  • ⚠ Do not fit an incandescent or halogen globe above 25 W.
  • ✅ Our record's 25 W is correct, as it is across the CARTER family.
Choosing the globe for a working lamp
  • For a desk: a 9–11 W LED E27 at 800–1,000 lm, 4000 K, opal. Neutral white keeps paper reading white and holds attention better than warm light.
  • For a hall console or a bedside: the same globe at 3000 K.
  • ⚠ Opal is not optional here. The shade is open at the bottom and the lamp is tall, so a clear filament globe is directly in view when seated.
  • Dimming depends on the globe, not the lamp — a dimmable E27 plus an inline or plug-in dimmer.
What paper rope gives, and what it asks
  • A woven natural fibre, so light comes through warm and slightly textured rather than as a hard edge.
  • ✅ It reads as a considered object on a desk in a way a moulded plastic task lamp does not — which is the reason to choose it over something more adjustable.
  • ⛔ It does not articulate. This is a fixed lamp, not an anglepoise. If you need to aim light at a specific point on a work surface, this is the wrong lamp.
  • ⚠ It holds dust — a vacuum brush attachment, not a wet cloth — and it is not for a bench near a cooktop.

Questions
Is it adjustable like a task lamp?

No — it is a fixed lamp, not an anglepoise. If you need to aim light at a specific point on a work surface, this is the wrong lamp and we can point you at something articulated. What it gives instead is a considered object on the desk, which a moulded plastic task lamp does not.

Why is it taller than the table lamp?

Because a tall narrow shade throws a tighter, more contained pool of light than a wide low one. At 555 mm on a Ø170 mm shade it suits a desk, a hall console or a tall bedside table, where the wider Ø290 mm table lamp at 478 mm would spill light across the room.

Should I use a clear or an opal globe?

Opal, and it is not really optional on this one. The shade is open at the bottom and the lamp is tall, so at a standard desk the bottom of the shade sits above your seated eyeline — a clear filament globe would be directly in view while you work.

What is the maximum globe wattage?

25 W, which is lower than an E27 holder normally allows, because the shade is paper rope — a natural fibre wrapped close around the lamp. With LED it is a non-issue: a 9–11 W LED E27 gives roughly what a 60 W incandescent did and runs cool. Do not fit an incandescent or halogen globe above 25 W.

Which colour temperature for a desk?

4000 K, at around 800–1,000 lumens. Neutral white keeps paper reading white and holds attention better than warm light does. If the lamp is going on a hall console or beside a bed instead, use the same globe at 3000 K.

Can I dim it?

That depends on the globe rather than the lamp. A dimmable E27 with a plug-in or inline dimmer will dim; a non-dimmable globe will not. Tell us how you want to control it and we will specify the globe and dimmer together.

Is there a matching lamp for the rest of the room?

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

We reserve the right to refuse a return in cases where we cannot be reasonably satisfied that you purchased the product from us or where we are not responsible for the damage in accordance with our Faults & damages policy.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
