Captiva 24 Light Dimmable LED

The Captiva PE24 is a 1,370 mm twenty-four-light LED pendant in antique gold — integrated 72 W giving 3,096 lm at 3000 K, TRIAC dimmable, at 490 mm high and 4.8 kg.

Antique gold — and on this fitting the finish does more than usual

The Captiva is a frame carrying twenty-four small glass elements, so there is a great deal of visible metal — more than on almost any other pendant of this size, because the structure is the object.

• Antique gold makes the frame part of the composition. It is warm and visible, and — uniquely on a multi-source fitting — it catches the light of its own globes: twenty-four sources illuminate the armature from within, so the metal glows rather than reading as a silhouette.
• That makes it formal and warm, and it sits with brass hardware, timber and warm paint.
• The black version does the opposite: the frame disappears against a light ceiling and you see only the twenty-four lit points. Graphic and contemporary.

Twenty-four small sources, and what that buys

• Light lands evenly across a wide table, coming from twenty-four places spread over 1.37 metres rather than one point in the middle. On a long table that is genuinely better than one bright pendant.
• Shadows are soft, because many small sources fill in each other's shadows.
• It reads as a constellation rather than a solid object, which is why a 1.37-metre fitting can hang over a table without feeling oppressive.

3,096 lumens — and an honest word about efficiency

43 lm/W, which is low: the Hovin disc pendant reaches 101 and the Truvon 77.

Dimming is the whole point

TRIAC, on an ordinary wall dimmer, full range. As it comes down, the twenty-four points separate: at full it is a broad wash; low, it is twenty-four distinct warm points over a dark table — and in antique gold, the frame between them still glows faintly, which the black version does not do.

That effect only exists on a dimmer. Fit one.
