Brinley Mediterranean Outdoor Wall Light (Small)

The Brinley small is a Mediterranean-style exterior wall lantern in cast aluminium — a scrolled arm carrying caged glass panels, finished in flat black. It is a decorative, traditional fitting rather than a minimal one, and it is sized to be seen.

Larger than most wall lanterns

Even the small is 520 mm high and 210 mm wide, projecting 290 mm from the wall. That projection matters: check it against a doorway, a path or anywhere someone walks close to the wall. If it feels too big, there is no smaller Brinley — this is the small one.

Cast aluminium, not steel

Cast aluminium does not rust. It can be scratched through to bare metal, but it will not bleed rust stains down a rendered wall the way a ferrous fitting eventually does. That makes it a sound choice for a coastal or high-rainfall site where a painted steel lantern would eventually mark the wall beneath it.

Clear and frosted seedy glass

The caged panels are seedy glass — deliberately imperfect, with fine bubbles — in clear and frosted. The globe is partly visible, so a warm filament-style lamp suits it and a cold white one looks wrong behind the texture.

Where it works

• Mediterranean, Tuscan and traditional frontages where a minimal fitting would jar.
• Wide entries and porches with the wall area to carry 520 mm.
• Garden walls and piers, mounted where the 290 mm projection is clear of paths.
• Coastal sites, where cast aluminium will not rust-stain the wall.

Specifying it

It takes a single E27 globe up to 25 W, not supplied, and is not dimmable. Rated IP44 — splashing water from any direction, so ordinary weather is fine but direct hosing is not. It runs on 240 V. A larger Brinley at 610 mm is available if this one is too modest for the wall. Warranty is three years.
