Brine 28Cm Pendant Light Small

The Brine PE28 is a 288 mm opal glass pendant — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied — in polished nickel, matt black or satin antique gold, on a 2,600 mm suspension.

Opal glass, which is the most forgiving shade there is

Opal hides the globe completely. No bright point, no visible filament, no glare from any angle — the whole surface lights evenly and the pendant reads as a glowing form rather than a lamp in a shade. Two practical consequences: you can hang it at eye level over a table without anyone looking into a bright spot, and the globe you fit does not matter to the look — only to the brightness and the warmth. That is the opposite of the clear and ribbed shades elsewhere in this range.

A 2,600 mm drop — longer than almost anything else here

2.6 metres of suspension, where most pendants in this catalogue give 2,000 mm and some only 1,200. That extra 600 mm makes the Brine usable in a stairwell or a void as well as over an ordinary table — and it shortens at install, so the length costs nothing if you do not need it. On a 120 mm canopy.

Three finishes, and they are genuinely different

• Polished nickel — bright and reflective. It mirrors the room and catches other light sources.
• Matt black — a solid dark form against the opal glass. The graphic choice, and the highest contrast.
• Satin antique gold — warm and aged rather than bright. The softest of the three against a white shade.

The old specification table listed the finish as “Antique” for this size and “Satin” for the larger one, which cannot be right when both come in all three.

288 by 481 mm — the smaller of two

A 288 mm shade on a 481 mm overall height. At this size it is a run fitting: two or three over a bench or an island. Alone over a dining table it will look undersized — the 400 mm Brine is the single-pendant size.
