BREVIK FLOOR LAMP

The Brevik is a 1,550 mm floor lamp in satin iron with an adjustable shade — in orange, beige, black or green.

Orange and green, which almost nothing else offers

This is the reason to look at it. Nearly every floor lamp in this catalogue comes in black, white or a metal. The Brevik comes in burnt orange and green alongside the safe black and beige — so if you are trying to pick up an accent colour in a room rather than default to neutral, this is one of the very few places you can. In a satin finish the colour reads as considered rather than loud.

The shade adjusts

It tilts, so one lamp does several jobs: down for reading beside a chair, at the wall for an indirect wash, or up to lift a dark corner. A fixed floor lamp gives you one answer.

Heavy, and it needs to be

5.41 kg — genuinely substantial for a 1.55-metre lamp, and among the heaviest here. A lamp with a head you push and pull needs the mass at the bottom, and this has it. It will not creep or tip.

Satin, not gloss or matte

Between the two: it holds a soft sheen without reflecting the room. On a coloured lamp that matters — gloss would make orange look plastic, and matte would flatten it.

Plug in and use it

Class II, double insulated, no earth required, on a 2,000 mm cable with a plug. No electrician.

One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied

An ordinary replaceable globe. Dimming is globe dependent — fit a dimmable globe and use a plug-in or inline dimmer.

There is a matching table lamp

Brevik runs as table and floor lamps, both with adjustable shades and the same colourways. A floor lamp beside the sofa with the table lamp on the side table reads as one pairing.

• Beside a reading chair — shade aimed down.
• Living room corners, aimed at the wall.
• Rooms with an accent colour, or needing one.
• Busy rooms, where a light lamp would get knocked.
