Bobo Batten Fix Ceiling Light

The Bobo BF20 is a 200 mm batten fix ceiling light with a glass shade on a gloss iron frame — one B22 globe to 40 W, not supplied — in antique gold with opal matt glass, black with clear glass or black with opal matt glass.

What a batten fix actually is, and why it matters

A batten fix mounts onto the existing batten holder most Australian ceilings already have — the plain lampholder screwed to the ceiling in older houses and in bedrooms, laundries and hallways everywhere. That makes the Bobo a direct upgrade: there is no new wiring, no new fixing point and no ceiling work, just a fitting that goes where the bare lampholder was. It is the cheapest way to change how a room looks.

B22 bayonet, not E27 — check before you buy a globe

The Bobo takes a B22 bayonet globe — the push-and-twist base, not the screw type. That is consistent with its purpose, because bayonet is what most Australian batten holders were built for. But it means an E27 screw globe will not fit, and E27 is what most people have in a drawer. Up to 40 W, and not supplied.

Clear or opal matt — and it is the real decision

• Opal matt — fully diffusing. Hides the globe completely: no bright point, no glare, an even glow. On a ceiling fitting you walk under and look up at, this is the comfortable choice, and it is available in both antique gold and black.
• Clear — the globe is fully visible. That is a look, and it demands a decorative filament globe to work; a plain frosted one will look unfinished. Available in black only.

200 by 220 mm, and light

200 mm across, 220 mm high, on a 120 mm canopy projecting 30 mm, at only 0.8 kg. Small enough for a hallway, a bedroom or a landing without dominating, and light enough that the existing batten point carries it easily.

Dimming depends on the globe

Fit a dimmable B22 and pair it with a wall dimmer and it dims; a plain globe will not. Our record carries no value at all against dimmable; the correct answer is globe dependent.
