The Birget is a 305 mm pendant with a stretched elastic fabric shade on an iron frame — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on a 2,000 mm suspension.

⚠ Please confirm the colour with us before ordering. Our sources disagree. One variant is labelled “Brown” but carries the order code BIRGET PE30-GY — GY for grey — and the description calls the range “rich coffee and sleek grey”.

So the same product is described as brown by its variant name and grey by its code and its copy. The other variant, PE30-CF, is coffee and is consistent. Tell us which colour you want and we will confirm what ships before your order is placed.

An elastic fabric shade — and what makes it different

The Birget's shade is soft fabric stretched over a frame, not a rigid drum. Because it is thin and under tension it is translucent: the shade glows across its whole surface rather than only throwing light out of the top and bottom.

The stretch also gives a smooth seamless curve with no visible ribs, which is what makes it read as minimal rather than traditional. The light is soft, even and diffused in every direction, with no glare and no visible globe — comfortable to sit under, and usable low over a bench.

It shares this construction with the Jonsel pendants, which come in three sizes in black and white. If you want the same shade in a different size or a plain colour, ask us about the Jonsel — the Birget's contribution is its warmer, more unusual colours.

The colour changes the light, not just the look

On a translucent shade this matters more than it would on an opaque one. Both Birget colours are mid-tone rather than white or black, so:

  • Light passing through the fabric is warmed and tinted by it — a coffee shade gives a distinctly warmer, browner cast than a white one would.
  • Less light passes through a mid-tone than a white shade, so more of it goes down — a slightly more focused pool than a white Jonsel of the same size.
305 mm wide, 360 mm shade — and very light

1.1 kg, on a 100 mm canopy. A 305 mm pendant that weighs barely more than a kilogram goes onto any standard fixing, and three in a run is only 3.3 kg across a ceiling — which opens up positions a heavier pendant would rule out.

⚠ No overall height is recorded — only the shade height of 360 mm. On a pendant, the fitting height is what you plan the hanging position from. Ask us if the clearance is tight.

Dimming depends on the globe. Our record carries no value at all; the datasheet says globe dependent. Fit a dimmable E27 LED with a wall dimmer — and on a translucent coloured shade, dimming is especially good: low, the whole shade becomes a soft warm lantern. It is Class I — earth required and IP20 — indoor and dry locations only.

What is an elastic fabric shade?

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Our Rights

We reserve the right to refuse a return in cases where we cannot be reasonably satisfied that you purchased the product from us or where we are not responsible for the damage in accordance with our Faults & damages policy.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.

  • Restocking fee: 20% will apply unless otherwise stated, or unless another order of equal or greater value is placed in lieu of this re-stocking fee.
