The Domus BF-2018 is a 200 mm raw ceramic wall uplight taking one G9 lamp, supplied unpainted so it can be finished in the wall colour and read as part of the plaster rather than as a fitting mounted on it.

What raw ceramic actually means here
  • ✅ It arrives unfinished and you paint it. Any water-based paint — including the wall’s own — so the fitting can disappear into the surface or be picked out against it.
  • ⚠ Until it is painted the ceramic is porous. Handle it with clean hands; it marks.
  • ⚠ Indoor, dry areas only. No bathroom zone, no covered outdoor wall.
  • ✅ Made in Italy, and the body is the finish — nothing to peel or corrode.
⭐ The BF-2018 and the BF-2020 are the same fitting in two lengths

Both are 70 mm deep and 70 mm high. What separates them is length and lamp count:

⭐ Neither listing mentions the other, so it is worth knowing before you choose: at 200 mm this one is a punctuation mark, and at 500 mm the BF-2020 is a band.

⭐ The wattage — settled across the range
  • 60 W is the maximum for the lamp, not for the fitting. Across all 17 G9 fittings in the BF ceramic range the datasheet says 60 W whether the fitting takes one lamp or two, so it cannot be a total. The BF-2185 confirms it: one G9, and its sheet says 40 W. The BF-2020 states it outright in its title — “2x60W”.
  • ✅ With one lamp here the distinction does not bite — 60 W either way.
  • ⚠ We would still not put a 60 W halogen in a closed ceramic body. A 4 W LED G9 gives roughly what a 40 W halogen did and runs cool.
Choosing the lamp — not supplied
  • ✅ LED G9, 3–4 W, 2700–3000 K. Ceramic and plaster are warm surfaces and a cool lamp fights them.
  • ⚠ Rated for enclosed fixtures. Many small G9 LEDs explicitly are not, and this is a closed shell.
  • ✅ CRI ≥90 if the wall is a colour. Grazing light across a painted surface is exactly where a cheap lamp flattens the colour.
Where it works
  • A narrow pier or wall return — 200 mm is short enough to sit on a section of wall that a longer fitting would overrun.
  • Beside a stair, repeated up the flight, throwing light onto the ceiling rather than into the eyes of anyone coming down.
  • A bedroom, where uplight off the ceiling is the least intrusive light in the room.
  • ⚠ Not on a poorly finished wall. Grazing light finds every ripple in the plaster above it. On a good wall that is the effect; on a patchy one it is a problem.

Questions
Do I have to paint it?

No, and plenty are left raw — the unfinished ceramic is a deliberate look. But until it is painted the surface is porous, so it marks more easily and cannot be wiped clean the way a sealed finish can. If it is going somewhere hands reach, paint or seal it.

Is 60 watts per lamp or for the fitting?

Per lamp. It takes one G9, so here the two readings give the same number — but it is worth knowing because the two-lamp models in this range are rated to 60W each, not 60W between them. We settled it by measuring all 30 BF listings: the sheets say 60W whether the fitting takes one lamp or two, the one-lamp BF-2185 says 40W, and the BF-2020 states "2x60W" in its own title.

Should I get this or the BF-2020?

Length. They share the same 70 × 70mm section, so on the wall they read identically — this one is 200mm with a single lamp, the BF-2020 is 500mm with two. Use this on a pier, a narrow return or a stair wall; use the BF-2020 where you have a broad hallway or living-room wall and a 200mm fitting would look lost.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. Raw ceramic is porous until painted and the fitting is rated for indoor dry use only. For a bathroom wall light, ask us for something with an IP rating suited to the zone.

What lamp should I actually buy?

A 3–4W LED G9 in 2700–3000K, rated for enclosed fixtures. That gives roughly what a 40W halogen did, runs cool inside a closed ceramic shell, and takes the wattage question off the table entirely. If the wall is a colour, pay for CRI ≥90 — grazing light across paint is exactly where a cheap lamp shows.

Will it show up flaws in my wall?

Yes. Grazing light is unforgiving and it will find every ripple in the plaster above it. On a well-finished wall that is precisely the effect you are buying. On a patchy one, fix the wall first or choose a fitting that throws light away from the surface.

Why is the warranty only one year?

That is the term Domus gives its imported ceramic range rather than an error on this listing — most of this catalogue is three years, so it is worth knowing when comparing on price. In practice a ceramic shell with a replaceable lamp has very little in it to fail. What it will not survive is being chipped.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
