Barline 300mm surface mounted wall light

The Barline is a linear surface-mounted wall light, 300mm long, sold here in black, white and brass. It is built to wash a wall from close range rather than to light a room, which is why the beam is a wide 180° — the light leaves the fitting and spreads across the surface it is mounted on instead of throwing forward into the space. Mounted vertically beside a door or horizontally above a bench, that produces a band of light on the wall itself with the fitting reading as a line rather than a lamp.

The body is aluminium with a Perspex diffuser, rated IP65 against dust and jetted water and IK08 against impact, so it is equally at home outdoors on an entry wall or indoors in a bathroom or stairwell.

Light output and colour temperature

The Barline draws 6W. It is a tri-colour fitting, so the colour temperature is selected on the fitting at installation rather than fixed at manufacture, and each setting has its own output: 170lm at 3000K, 185lm at 4000K and 180lm at 5500K. That is deliberately modest — a 300mm wall light aimed at a surface a few centimetres away does not need to be bright, and an over-bright linear fitting simply produces glare on a wall people walk past. Colour rendering is rated above 80 CRI.

The LED is built in, so there is no globe to buy and none to replace. Rated lamp expectancy is >30,000 hrs. The fitting is not dimmable.

Power and installation

The Barline runs on 240V AC mains and needs no driver, so it wires like any other mains fitting. It is a Class 1 fitting and requires an earth connection, which means it must be connected by a licensed electrician.

Because the fitting is surface mounted, the cable position decides the result. Mark the fitting's 300mm length on the wall before the cable is set, so the outlet lands where the body will cover it rather than beside it.

Choosing the finish

Three finishes are sold on this page and they are the same fitting: HV3561T-BLK in black, HV3561T-WHT in white and HV3561T-BR in brass. Black tends to disappear on dark brick or timber and reads as a shadow line by day; white does the same on render and painted plaster; brass is the one that is meant to be seen, and it is priced above the other two. Lights For You would suggest deciding that against the wall in daylight, since all three throw exactly the same light after dark.
