A slim round oyster in white polycarbonate, Ø380mm and only 53mm deep. This is the largest Auster, sized to light a full living room, a large bedroom or an open-plan area on its own — and the shallow depth is what keeps a disc this wide from reading as a bulky dome on a standard ceiling.
The Auster accepts a cutout anywhere from Ø100mm to Ø360mm. That range is the practical reason to choose it: it will cover an existing downlight aperture, an old oyster's fixing holes, or a patched hole left by a previous fitting, without any plaster repair.
On a renovation that is worth a great deal. Replacing ceiling fittings normally means either matching the old cutout exactly or patching, sanding and repainting the ceiling. A fitting that spans anything up to Ø360mm removes that entirely, and at this diameter it will cover the footprint of almost any fitting it replaces.
This is a five-step fitting rather than the usual three: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, selected on the fitting at installation. Output is rated per step — 2590lm at 2700K, 2690lm at 3000K, 2810lm at 3500K, 2850lm at 4000K and 2775lm at 5000K — from a 36W draw.
Five steps with a 3500K in the middle is unusually fine control. 2700K suits a bedroom, 3000K a living area, 3500K is the setting people reach for when 3000K feels too yellow and 4000K too clinical, and the cooler steps suit a laundry or a workspace. Colour rendering is above 80 CRI.
The Auster is Triac dimmable and works with a conventional LED-rated wall dimmer, with no additional module on the circuit. On a bedroom or hallway oyster that matters more than the top-end output does — most of the time the fitting will be run well below full.
It runs on 240V and is a Class 2 fitting, so no earth is required at the fitting. It is rated IP44 for splashing water, which allows it in a bathroom outside the immediate shower zone — confirm the zone requirements with your electrician rather than assuming from the rating.
It is rated IK04 for impact and the LED is built in, so there is no globe to buy or replace. Installation is work for a licensed electrician.
Almost certainly. It accepts a cutout from Ø100mm up to Ø360mm, so it spans most existing apertures without patching.
Five — 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K — each with its own rated output.
