The Ashton is the smallest lantern in Havit’s galvanised-iron range: 304 mm tall on a compact 129 mm footprint, and priced at the bottom of the family alongside the Jace. It is the fitting for the jobs where a lantern is wanted but scale is a problem — a low porch, a garage side door, a courtyard wall, or a run of several where a larger shape would dominate.
It ships with a 4 W E27 LED filament globe producing 300 lumens at 2700K across a 120° spread. That is accent lighting: warm, low and decorative, the level you want for a lantern seen from the street rather than one lighting a task. If it needs to light a doorstep properly, either fit a larger globe or step up to one of the 700-lumen shapes in the range.
Fitting a larger globe is genuinely an option here. The base is a standard, replaceable E27 and Havit’s ceiling for this fitting is 60 W — fifteen times the lamp supplied — so the same body can be run much harder if the position calls for it. Havit does not list a matched 4000K or 5500K globe for the Ashton, so a cooler colour would be a third-party lamp within that limit.
Havit is unambiguous: this fitting is not suitable for installation in coastal areas or environments exposed to salt water. No distance is given, so it is not a question of being far enough back from the beach. The body is galvanised iron — steel protected by a zinc layer — and salt air attacks that layer directly. On a coastal project, specify 316 stainless steel or solid brass and treat this range as unavailable.
Elsewhere the requirement is only shelter. IP44 covers splashing, not driven rain, so it belongs under an eave, a porch or a verandah. IK02 impact resistance keeps it out of exposed public positions.
It connects to 240 V mains with no driver required and none fitted, and it is Triac dimmable from an ordinary wall dimmer — Havit’s HV9625 300 W dial dimmer is the matched control for this family, and its 300 W capacity comfortably covers a run of several Ashtons on one circuit. It is Protection Class 1, so an earth is required.
Two steps in Havit’s instructions carry the warranty: rubber pads on the glass tabs before the glass goes in, and a silicone bead around the edge of the fitting once mounted, sealing the route water would take to the terminals. Wiring is parallel, CRI is above 80, and colour consistency is held within SDCM 5 — worth having when several go up on one elevation.
Lights For You stocks the Ashton with the rest of this Havit range, and it is backed by a 3 year replacement warranty.
It is the smallest in this range — 304 mm tall on a footprint around 129 mm across. That is why it suits low porches, side doors and courtyard walls.
It is an accent level: warm and decorative rather than functional. For lighting a doorstep properly, fit a larger globe or choose one of the 700-lumen shapes in this range.
60 W. The base is a standard replaceable E27 and the supplied lamp is only 4 W, so there is a great deal of headroom.
No. Havit states it is not suitable for installation in coastal areas or environments exposed to salt water, with no distance qualifier. Use 316 stainless steel or solid brass at a coastal address.
Yes. They are Triac dimmable and Havit’s matched HV9625 dial dimmer is rated to 300 W, which covers a run of these comfortably. There is no driver in the fitting.
Yes — IP44 protects against splashing rather than sustained weather, so it needs an eave, porch or verandah above it.
Yes, it is Protection Class 1 and an earth must be present at the point.
