The Aries is a slim cylinder — ø60 mm across and 121 mm long — that fixes to a wall and throws a tight 60° beam straight down. That narrow beam is what it is for: a defined pool of light on a step, a doorway or a path edge, with almost no spill onto the wall above. It is the opposite of a wash light. In aluminium with black or white powder coat, it is the version to specify where the fitting will be seen up close but does not need to be a feature, and where the budget goes into how many you install rather than what each one is made of.

Where it works

• Entry walls beside a front door, one or two down-lighting the threshold.
• Along a path or driveway wall, spaced to drop pools of light on the paving.
• Alfresco and outdoor kitchen walls, aimed down onto a bench or a serving area.
• Exposed coastal walls — IP65 handles direct rain and salt-laden wind.

Specifying it

HV3625S-ALUBLK and HV3625S-ALUWHT run on 240 V AC, so they wire straight to mains with no driver, and require an earth as Class I fittings. The 6 W COB LED is built in — there is no globe to buy and none can be fitted. This fitting has a five-step colour selection rather than the usual three: 615 lm at 2700K, 630 lm at 3000K, 700 lm at 4000K, 750 lm at 5000K and 790 lm at 5700K. That range is unusually useful outdoors — 2700K for a warm heritage entry, 5700K where you want a crisp modern edge. Clear glass diffuser, IP65 and IK08. Triac dimmable. Getting the effect right

A 60° beam from a wall at 2 m gives a pool roughly 2.3 m across, so plan spacing from the mounting height rather than by eye. Set the colour temperature before the fitting is closed up; on a run of several fittings, set them all the same before the first one goes on the wall.
