Argos 8 Pendant Light

The Argos PE8 is an 850 mm eight-light pendant with cylindrical fabric shades on an antique gold frame — black or ivory shades — eight E27 globes to 25 W each, not supplied, on a 2,000 mm suspension.

Eight cylindrical shades — and what that arrangement does

The Argos is not a single shade with eight globes inside it: it is eight separate cylindrical fabric shades on one frame. Each is opaque, so light goes straight down and straight up from each one and none escapes sideways.

The result is eight defined pools of light on the surface below rather than one broad wash — sharper and more architectural than a drum pendant, and it means the fitting lights the table without lighting the room. Over a long table that is exactly the effect people want; as a general room light it is not.

850 mm — a long-table fitting

850 mm wide by 280 mm high, at 4.42 kg, on a 2,000 mm adjustable suspension. Eight sources across 850 mm light a long dining table or an island end to end, and at 25 W each — 200 W maximum there is no shortage of output.

Black or ivory shades, on antique gold

The antique gold frame is constant. Because the shades are opaque, the colour does not change the light — it changes the object:

• Ivory — soft and tonal against the gold; the fitting reads warm and quiet, and the eight cylinders almost merge into the frame.
• Black — graphic; eight dark cylinders on a gold frame, strongly architectural, and the fitting reads as a deliberate object even unlit.

Part of a three-form range

Argos comes as a wall light, a table lamp and pendants, all with the same cylindrical shade. So a pendant over the table, a wall light in the hall and a table lamp on the sideboard read as one scheme — and because the shade is the element you look at, the match is exact rather than approximate.

Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
