The Altez OY50 is a 500 mm low-profile LED oyster in white — 48 W giving 3,450 lm, with 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K and dimming, at only 70 mm deep and 1.8 kg.

It weighs 1.8 kilograms, and that is genuinely unusual. Compare the 500 mm ceiling fittings in this catalogue:

It is the brightest of them and the lightest — a little more light than the Stellar for a third of the weight. On a ceiling that matters: 1.8 kg sitting flat against plasterboard needs no special fixing provision, where the 4 to 5 kg fittings do.

That makes the Altez the straightforward answer for a retrofit, an older or lightly built ceiling, or anywhere you would rather not open anything up.

70 mm deep, 3,450 lumens

72 lm/W — efficient, and enough to be the only light in a living room, a large bedroom or a kitchen. At 70 mm it sits close enough to the ceiling to read as a flush disc rather than a bowl, which is what keeps a room feeling tall.

The white finish is the right call here: on a 500 mm disc, white disappears into a white ceiling when the light is off, so the fitting is only present when it is doing something.

Three colour temperatures, and it dims

3000 K warm for living rooms and bedrooms — right in most homes. 4000 K neutral for a kitchen, laundry or study. 5000 K cool for a garage or workshop.

⚠ Decide before the electrician leaves. Our record flags the Altez as colour changing, which overstates it — the setting is made at the fitting, at installation, and cannot be changed from a switch, an app or a remote afterwards. On a 500 mm oyster in the middle of a ceiling, changing it later means taking it down.

If you want colour you can change afterwards, ask us about the Corsa, whose three settings are switched from an ordinary wall switch.

It also dims, which on a 3,450-lumen fitting is what lets it be a working light at full and an evening one low. The datasheet records TRIAC, so an ordinary wall dimmer — tell us your dimmer and we will confirm compatibility before you buy one.

Glare-free, and what that costs

The description's claim of “even, glare-free light” is doing real work and is worth unpacking. A 48 W LED array behind a diffusing panel spreads the output across the whole 500 mm face, so there is no bright spot to look at — which is what makes a ceiling fitting comfortable to sit under.

The trade is that a diffuser absorbs: 72 lm/W is good for a decorative fitting and modest against a bare LED panel. You are paying a little efficiency for a lot of comfort, and on a fitting that lights a room you sit in, that is the right trade.

⚠ Two notes on our own data.

  • The page listed “Collection: FULCRUM”. This product is an ALTEZ. Fulcrum is a different range — if you have been looking for a Fulcrum oyster on the strength of that line, this is the fitting you were reading about.
  • Our record carried no material at all. It is iron, acrylic and polycarbonate; the page flattened the polycarbonate to “Plastic”.

Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, so not a bathroom — the Lunos squares are IP44 if you need one that can. CRI above 80.

How does it compare to the other 500mm ceiling fittings?

It is the brightest of them and the lightest — 3,450 lumens at 1.8 kg, against the Stellar’s 3,280 at 4.9 kg and the Arema’s 2,750 at 4. A little more light for a third of the weight. On a ceiling that matters: 1.8 kg needs no special fixing provision where the heavier ones do.

Is it good for a retrofit?

It is the straightforward answer for one — light enough for an older or lightly built ceiling, only 70 mm deep, and bright enough to be the room’s only light.

Will it light a room on its own?

Yes — 3,450 lumens covers a living room, a large bedroom or a kitchen, and the dimming lets it be a working light at full and an evening one low.

Can I change the colour temperature later?

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
