What it does

This is a replacement or optional lens for the fitting it is listed against. It changes the shape of the beam and nothing else - the light source, the driver and the housing all stay as they are.

That makes it one of the few genuinely reversible decisions in a lighting installation. A fitting that throws light too widely, or spills it where it is not wanted, can often be corrected by changing the optic rather than by moving or replacing the fitting.

A honeycomb lens cuts glare. It shields the source so the light is visible on the surface it lands on rather than as a bright point in the eye, which matters most where a fitting sits low or where people look towards it - a garden path, a step, a seating area.

A linear lens stretches the beam along one axis, turning a round pool of light into an elongated one. That is what suits a wall, a hedge, a path or anything else longer than it is wide, and it means one fitting can cover what would otherwise need two.

Identifying the part you need

The hard part of ordering a component is rarely the component; it is working out which one you have. Lighting ranges share a look across models that take entirely different parts, and a part that is a few millimetres out simply will not fit.

The reliable identifier is the part number on the fitting itself. It is usually printed on the body, on the driver, or on a label inside the housing, and it is worth finding before ordering rather than after.
