The MDL-613 is a recessed downlight FRAME in black or white — 105 mm across, 45 mm deep, into a 90 mm cutout, IP44, with a five-year warranty.
⚠ Two things you must know before you buy this, and our page said neither.
Most downlights are one sealed unit: when the LED fails, the whole fitting comes out of the ceiling and a new one goes in — and if the replacement has a different cutout, you are patching plasterboard.
A frame-and-module system separates the two:
That is why the frame carries a five-year warranty where most fittings in this range carry three: it is a piece of ceiling hardware meant to outlast several modules. Nothing on our page drew attention to that, and it is one of the better reasons to specify the system.
Black or white, and it matters more than it looks. The 105 mm trim is the only part anyone sees. White disappears into a white ceiling — the usual choice, and the right one when you want the light and not the fittings. Black reads as a deliberate dark aperture, which suits a dark or timber ceiling and a more technical look; it also hides the module behind it so you see less of the source when you look up.
The frame sits only 45 mm above the ceiling line. That matters in a shallow void, under a bulkhead, or in a furred-down plasterboard ceiling below a concrete slab — positions where a deeper fitting simply does not fit. Check the module's depth as well: ask us for the combined figure for whatever pairing you choose.
IP44 — protected against splashing water from any direction, which puts the frame in a bathroom outside the shower zone or a laundry. Confirm the module's rating too: the assembly is only as protected as its weaker half, and we will check the pair for you.
In aluminium, which is what lets the frame carry the module's heat away — the thing that most determines how long an LED actually lasts. (Our record lists 12 W against this frame. A frame has no wattage; that figure belongs to a module.)
105 mm across, 45 mm deep, into a 90 mm cutout, in aluminium, black or white. FRAME ONLY — no LED, no globe and no driver are included; an MDL module is required and sold separately. IP44 — bathrooms outside the shower zone, subject to the module's rating. A licensed electrician installs it. Warranty is FIVE years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No. It is a frame only — no LED, no globe and no driver. It is half of a two-part system and will not light anything until an MDL module is fitted, which is a separate purchase. Our page never said so. Ask us and we will pair them.
90 mm. Our specification table published “Cut-Out 9 mm”, which is wrong by a factor of ten — the datasheet records 9 cm. The 105 mm figure is the visible trim, not the hole.
Because the module can be changed without touching the ceiling — for a failure, or for a different beam angle or colour temperature. Most downlights are one sealed unit: when the LED fails the whole fitting comes out, and if the replacement has a different cutout you are patching plasterboard. That is also why this frame carries a five-year warranty where most fittings here carry three.

The frame is IP44, so outside the shower zone, yes — but confirm the module’s rating as well. The assembly is only as protected as its weaker half, and we will check the pair for you.
Because it is ceiling hardware rather than a light — it is meant to outlast several modules. Nothing on our page drew attention to it, and it is one of the better reasons to specify the system.
