A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Sotto is a submersible pond and water-feature light with a 316 stainless steel body, rated IP68 for continuous immersion. This listing carries three versions of it, and they differ in the light source rather than in the housing: HV1494C and HV1494W are white-light fittings, while HV1494RGB is the colour-changing version.
The housing is the part that has to survive, and 316 is the stainless grade specified for sustained contact with water that is not clean — pond water carries dissolved minerals, organic acids and whatever treatment the pond runs on, and a lesser grade will pit and stain in it.
A white-light fitting and a colour-changing one are different tools rather than different trim levels. White light is what you want when the point is to see something: planting, stonework, a spill wall, the movement of water down a blade. It looks the same every night, which is the intention.
The RGB version exists for water features that are meant to be an event rather than a background — entertaining areas, commercial forecourts, feature ponds that are the focus of a courtyard. It is priced above the white versions and it asks a question the white fittings do not: someone has to decide what colour it is doing tonight. Where a pond is looked at every evening from a kitchen window, most people settle back to white within a month.
The Sotto runs on 12V DC and needs a driver on the circuit rather than a mains connection at the fitting. Low voltage is what makes a submersible light specifiable at all — the wiring in and around the water never carries mains. The driver is not part of this listing, and its capacity should be checked against every fitting on the run before adding another.
Installation is work for a licensed electrician. Position the fitting before anything is fixed or backfilled: water moves light, and a beam that looks correct on a still surface can throw a restless pattern once a pump is running. It is worth switching the pond on and looking at the result before committing.
Anything underwater accumulates a film. A submerged light that is never wiped will dim steadily and be blamed for failing when it has simply gone green, so plan on cleaning the lens whenever the pond is serviced. Keeping the fitting where it can actually be reached — rather than under a rock ledge that looked right on day one — is the single decision that most affects how well it works in year three. Our team at Lights For You can talk through placement if the feature is still being built.
Yes. It is rated IP68 for continuous immersion and the body is 316 stainless steel.
The light source. HV1494C and HV1494W are white-light versions; HV1494RGB is the colour-changing version and is priced higher.
Yes. It runs on 12V DC, and the driver is not included with the fitting.
316 is the grade specified for sustained contact with water carrying minerals, organic acids and pond treatments, which would pit a lesser grade.
Wipe the lens whenever the pond is serviced. A film of algae dims a submerged fitting long before anything fails.
