GT-531 Siena Sphere Exterior Pillar Mount

The Domus GT-531 Siena is a sphere on an exterior pillar mount — 250 mm wide, 280 mm high, IP43, taking one E27 globe, in beige, black, burgundy, green or white.

Domus builds this fitting to order and asks for up to 10 business days for production before it ships. It is not picked off a shelf.

• ⭐ That is the trade-off for the finish choice. The body is powder-coated in the colour you pick after you order, which is why the range offers five rather than one stocked colour.
• ⚠ Plan the lead time into the job. If it is needed for a handover, a settlement or a booked electrician, tell us the date when you order and we will confirm the production window with Domus.
• ⚠ Order the whole set together. On a property using several of these, a second order placed later starts its own ten days — and a later powder-coat batch is not guaranteed to match the first.

⚠ IP43 — where this can and cannot go

IP43 protects against solid objects over 1 mm and spraying water down to 60° from vertical — lower than the IP44 or IP65 most exterior fittings carry.

• ✅ Suitable on a sheltered pier, under an eave, in a porch, or on a pillar protected from prevailing weather.
• ⚠ Not suitable where rain arrives horizontally — an exposed gate pier in driving rain is outside 60°.
• ⛔ Not for hosing, coastal spray or pooling water.

If the position is exposed, ask us for an IP44 or IP65 alternative — the CLARO at IP65 is one.

The larger Siena, and what the extra size does

• ✅ More presence. On a substantial gate pier or a masonry column, the smaller GT-530 can look under-scaled; this one holds the position.
• ✅ A larger globe compartment, so more choice of lamp and easier relamping.
• ⚠ More upward spill. A bigger glowing sphere is a bigger light source, and it throws in every direction. If neighbours are close, that is a real consideration.

✅ Use them in pairs, either side of a gate or drive. Symmetry is what makes a sphere read as deliberate rather than as an afterthought.

Choosing the globe — it is not supplied

• Warm 2700–3000 K. Cool white on an entry reads as institutional.
• Opal or frosted, never a clear filament — a clear globe shows as a hot spot through the diffuser and undoes the even glow that is the whole point of a sphere.
• Around 500–700 lm. A sphere has nothing shielding it, so a bright globe becomes something you squint at from down the drive.
• ⚠ Rated for enclosed fixtures, or it will run hot and fail early.

✅ Burgundy, and the rest

• Black — the modern default; the sphere reads as a dark object by day.
• White and beige — traditional, and visible by day, which suits a formal entry.
• Green — recedes into planting.
• ✅ Burgundy — nothing else in this catalogue offers it. Against red brick or a heritage palette it is a considered choice rather than a default.

Where it works

• Substantial gate piers, entry columns and masonry walls — in pairs.
• Sheltered positions — porches, eaves, protected pillars.
• Heritage and traditional entries — particularly in burgundy or beige.
• ⛔ IP43 — not for exposed positions in driving rain or hosing.
• ⚠ Sphere diameter is contradictory in our sources — ask us if it matters.
