Spar is the smallest spike light Havit makes — a 16 mm diameter head on a 140 mm stem, drawing 0.5 W. It exists for the job where a normal garden spotlight is far too much: a single fern, a pot on a deck, a sculpture, the face of a low rendered wall. At 25–30 lm through a 36° beam it will not light a tree, and trying to make it do so is the one way to be disappointed by it. Bought for what it is — a discreet accent that disappears into a bed by day — it is hard to better. It spikes into soil or surface mounts onto timber or paving.

The decision that matters: this is a 12 V fitting

Both finishes are 12 V DC. Spar requires a 12 V DC LED driver and must never be connected directly to 240 V — that destroys the fitting on the spot and is not a warranty claim. Keep each fitting within 25 m of its driver: past that distance Havit's warranty does not apply, and voltage drop over a long thin run shows as the far lights going dim. At 0.5 W each, a great many Spar fit on one modest driver, which is why they suit repeated accent work down a bed. A 1000 mm reinforced tail is supplied.

Where it works

• Grazing a rendered or feature wall — the 36° beam is tight enough to read as a deliberate streak of light, not a wash.
• Potted plants on decks and balconies, surface mounted where a spike has no soil to bite into.
• Individual ferns, cycads and small feature shrubs in a courtyard garden.
• Path edges and stepping stones where a spike sits back in the mulch and only the lit ground shows.

Specifying it

Tri-colour selectable at install — 3000K, 4000K or 5500K — with output in the 25–30 lm range; the variant table carries the per-SKU figure. Set every fitting on a run to the same temperature. The LED is built in: no globe is needed and none can be fitted. Dimmable, which on a low-voltage circuit means the driver itself must be a dimmable type. Powder-coated aluminium in black or white, IP65 for direct rain and hose-down, IK08 impact rating, and class III low voltage so no earth is required. Licensed electrician only.
