Highlite LED Garden Spike Light TRI Colour 5w

Highlite is a fixed-aim garden spike light in powder-coated aluminium, offered in black or a titanium colour, and the significant thing about it is the lamp: it takes a replaceable 5 W MR16 LED globe rather than a sealed LED. That makes it a serviceable fitting — in ten years you change a globe, not the whole spike. It is also a fixed body, not adjustable, so the aim is set by how you drive the spike into the ground.

The choice to make: fixed aim, serviceable lamp

A fixed head is a real constraint and a real advantage. It cannot be knocked out of alignment by a whipper snipper or a dog, which is why fixed spikes hold their aim for years where adjustable heads drift. But it also means the beam direction is decided at installation by the angle of the spike, so position it with the plant at its mature size in mind, not the size it is on planting day. The 400 mm spike gives enough purchase to hold that angle in soft garden soil.

Where it works

• Uplighting established trees — gums, jacarandas, frangipani — where the aim will not need to change once set.
• Garden beds along a driveway or front fence, spiked into mulch and angled up through the planting.
• Rendered or stone feature walls, set back from the base to graze the surface rather than spotlight one patch.
• Commercial and strata landscaping, where a replaceable MR16 globe means maintenance is a lamp change rather than a re-wire.

Specifying it

The lamp base is MR16. The globe is replaceable, and a replacement must also be MR16 and rated for 12 V DC — a GU10, MR11 or G5.3 lamp will not fit and must not be forced into the socket. Highlite runs on 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver; it must never be connected directly to 240 V, which destroys the fitting and takes the warranty with it.

Rated IP65 — direct rain, sprinklers and the constant ground moisture around a spike are all within its rating. Tri-colour selectable at install, with output paired to temperature as 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K. Choose one temperature across the whole garden; mixed temperatures in one bed is the most visible way a good install looks wrong after dark. Supplied with a 2 m reinforced cable behind a high-grade perspex reflector lens. Installation by a licensed electrician.
