Nedia Square 7w Tri Colour Aluminium

Nedia is the wide-beam spike light in this range — a square head on a 225 mm spike, 7 W, and a 120° beam where most garden spikes here are 36° or 90°. That beam angle is the whole reason to specify it. A narrow spotlight picks out one trunk; Nedia washes a broad area, which is what you want across a garden bed, along a hedge or over a section of paving. It is also the brightest fitting in this group at up to 550 lm. Three finishes: powder-coated black aluminium, antique brass and stainless steel.

The decision that matters: this is a 12 V fitting

All three finishes are 12 V DC. Nedia requires a 12 V DC LED driver and must never be connected directly to 240 V — doing so destroys the fitting on the spot and is outside the warranty. At 7 W each, Nedia is a heavier load than most spike lights, so count the wattage of the whole run carefully and size the driver with headroom rather than to the exact total.

Where it works

• Broad garden beds and mass planting — the 120° beam covers ground a spotlight cannot.
• Hedges and screening plants, washed along their length rather than dotted.
• Alfresco and courtyard paving under cover, lit from the bed edge.
• Wide rendered or block walls where a single narrow beam would look like a stripe.

Specifying it

Tri-colour selectable at install, and the product's own ordering table gives the same figures for every finish: 500 lm at 3000K, 525 lm at 4000K and 550 lm at 5500K from the built-in 7 W LED. Pick one temperature and set the whole garden to it. The LED is built in — no globe is needed and none can be fitted. It is not dimmable. The important limit is the ingress rating: Nedia is IP54, not IP65, which means splashing water rather than sustained direct weather. That makes it the wrong choice for a spike in an irrigated bed or where sprinklers hit it directly, and the right one for a sheltered position — under a deep eave, a pergola, or a bed that only ever sees rain from above. Where the fitting will take a hose or a sprinkler, specify an IP65 or IP67 spike light instead. Licensed electrician only.
