Oasis LED Garden Spike Spotlight 12w

Oasis 12 W is the heavy end of Havit's garden spike range — up to 1080 lm through a tight 36° beam, on a 260 mm spike in black powder-coated aluminium. Those two numbers together are what you buy: a lot of light concentrated into a narrow cone, which is the specification for throwing light a long way up. On a mature gum, a tall palm or a two-storey facade a 3 W fitting does not reach the top; this one does. It is also far too much light for a small courtyard — put 1080 lm on a shrub two metres away and you get a hot spot, not a lit garden.

The decision that matters: this is a 12 V fitting

Oasis 12 W requires a 12 V DC LED driver and must never be connected directly to 240 V, which destroys it on the spot and is not covered. At 12 W per fitting this is the largest low-voltage load in this group, so the driver calculation is not a formality: total the wattage of every fitting on the run and add headroom. Keep each fitting within 25 m of its driver — that is a warranty limit, and on a 12 W load voltage drop over a long thin cable shows up sooner than it would on a small fitting.

Where it works

• Uplighting mature trees and tall palms — the 36° beam carries right up into a high canopy.
• Two-storey facades and rendered piers, grazed from the garden bed below.
• Long driveways and entry statements where a feature needs to read from the street.
• Large rear gardens where a single strong beam does the work of several small fittings.

Specifying it

Tri-colour selectable at install, and the product's own table gives 960 lm at 3000K, 1020 lm at 4000K and 1080 lm at 5500K from the built-in 12 W LED. On a big tree 3000K keeps foliage looking natural; 5500K reads cooler, which suits stone and render. Single adjustable head with 90° of tilt, so the aim can be corrected after the spike is in. The LED is built in: no globe is needed and none can be fitted. It is not dimmable. IP65 for direct rain, sprinklers and hose-down, with class III low voltage so no earth is required. Licensed electrician only.
