Tivah LED Garden Spike Light CCT Black

Tivah in black 316 stainless steel is the version of this spike light for gardens that punish a fitting. The body is 316 stainless steel — the marine grade — finished in black powder coat, so what you see is a discreet black spike that vanishes into a bed while the metal underneath is the grade specified for salt exposure. A black aluminium fitting looks identical on day one and is a different proposition after five summers of salt air. 90° of tilt and 270° of swivel on a 285 mm spike.

The globe: MR16, and it is replaceable

Tivah takes an MR16 globe, supplied as a 5 W tri-colour LED. On a 316 stainless body that will still be sound long after the lamp has gone, that is the sensible arrangement: you re-lamp instead of replacing the light. Only an MR16 base will fit — a GU10, MR11 or G4 globe will not, and GU10 runs on mains voltage in any case. The fitting is not dimmable.

The decision that matters: this is a 12 V fitting

Tivah requires a 12 V DC LED driver and must never be connected directly to 240 V, which destroys it immediately and is not covered by the warranty. Size the driver against the combined load of the run with headroom rather than to the exact total. A 2 metre reinforced tail is supplied.

Specifying it

Tri-colour selectable at install, and the product's own table gives 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K from the 5 W MR16 globe at a 90° beam — wide for a spike light, so it lights a subject rather than pinning a spot on it. Set one temperature across the garden. Clear glass lens, IP65 for direct rain and hose-down, IK08 impact rating, class III low voltage so no earth is required. Even 316 stainless benefits from an occasional fresh-water rinse in salt air. Licensed electrician only.
