A recessed downlight with a deep-set lens, WiFi control and tunable colour temperature, offered here in four metal finishes rather than the usual black and white: antique brass, brass, copper and nickel. It takes a 90mm cutout and has a Ø105mm face.
A downlight is normally something you try not to notice, which is why almost every one is white. A brass, copper or nickel aperture does the opposite: it is a visible detail in the ceiling, and it only works where that is intended — over a bar, in a hallway with brass hardware, or in a room where the tapware and door furniture already set a metal.
Used without that context, four coloured apertures in a plaster ceiling look like a mistake. Used deliberately, they tie the ceiling into the rest of the fitout in a way white never can.
Most Havit downlights are tri-colour: three fixed settings chosen at installation. The Prime is a tunable CCT fitting running continuously from 2700K to 6500K, adjusted at any time rather than set once behind the ceiling.
That is a different proposition. The same fitting can be warm in the evening and cool during the day, or a whole house can be re-balanced after the fact when a room turns out to feel wrong. It removes the decision that tri-colour fittings force you to make on installation day and never revisit.
Colour temperature and dimming are handled through the app rather than by a wall dimmer. There is no dimmer module on the circuit and no dimming wiring to run.
⚠ That is a genuine commitment, not just a feature. The fitting depends on a network, an app and a phone. In a rental, a holiday house, or a home where guests need to work the lights, an app-only downlight is a poor fit — a wall-switch dimmer nobody has to install is more useful. Where the household is comfortable with app control, being able to retune a whole ceiling from a chair is worth a great deal.
The lens sits recessed within the body rather than flush with the ceiling. That depth shields the LED from direct view at normal angles, so the fitting is far less glary to look at than a flush one — the visible effect is a dark aperture with light coming out of it rather than a bright disc in the ceiling.
In bedrooms, hallways and any room where people lie down or look up, that is the single biggest comfort difference between one downlight and another. Colour rendering is above 90 CRI, which is well above what a typical downlight offers.
The fitting draws 12W, rated at 300lm to 340lm across the tuning range, and runs on 240V AC mains. It is a Class 2 fitting, so no earth is required at the fitting.
It is rated IP54 at the front of the fitting only — the visible face resists dust and splashing water, while the body above the ceiling is not sealed. Havit states it must be installed by a licensed electrician.
Through an app over WiFi, which handles both dimming and the 2700K to 6500K colour tuning. There is no wall dimmer.
No. It tunes continuously between 2700K and 6500K rather than offering three fixed settings.
No. It is a Class 2 fitting.
To shield the LED from direct view, which makes the fitting much less glary than a flush lens.
