The Korova is a 420 mm table lamp — blown glass on a black marble base with brass matt metalwork — in opal or smoke glass.

Marble, brass and blown glass — three real materials

Most lamps at this scale are one material pretending to be others. The Korova is black marble, brass matt metal and hand-blown glass, and each does something: the marble gives it weight and a cold, veined surface; the brass warms the join; the blown glass sits on top as the only soft element. That combination is what “Deco” actually means, rather than a shape that gestures at it.

Opal or smoke — two different lamps

• Opal — milky and closed. The glass glows evenly, the globe is invisible, and the lamp reads as a soft light on a hard base.
• Smoke — tinted and transparent. The globe stays visible as a dark point, and the lamp reads as an object rather than a light. Fit a decorative filament globe in this one; in the opal it would never be seen.

Blown glass, so no two are identical

Slight variation in wall thickness and form is inherent to hand-blowing — and in the smoke version, where you look through it, that variation is visible and is the point.

Compact and well proportioned — a bedside, console or shelf lamp rather than a statement piece. The marble base means it stays put on a polished surface.

Plug in and use it

Class II, double insulated, no earth required, on a black PVC cable. No electrician, no installation.

One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied

Dimming is globe dependent — fit a dimmable globe and use a plug-in or inline dimmer.

Caring for it

Telbix’s own instruction: wipe clean with a dry cloth, and do not use strong liquid cleaners. Marble in particular is porous and etches under acidic or harsh cleaners — this is the one thing that will mark the base permanently.
