Fidel Table Lamp

The Fidel is a 390 mm table lamp on a marble base with a pivoting spun metal shade — black or white marble with an antique gold frame — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on 1.8 metres of flex.

The shade pivots — this is a directional lamp

The Fidel's spun metal shade sits on a pivot at the top of its tube, so you can aim it. That makes it a genuinely different object from the table lamps around it in this catalogue: most are ambient, throwing light up and down through a fabric drum. The Fidel is an accent and task light — point it at a page, at a picture, at a wall, or down onto a console and it does that one job properly.

It also means the light is directional and fairly tight. If you want a lamp that fills a corner with a soft glow, this is not it.

The marble base is doing the engineering

A lamp with a shade that pivots off-centre has a real tipping problem: the moment you aim it sideways, the weight goes with it. The marble base is what solves that — stone is dense enough to hold a 130 mm base steady against an off-axis shade in a way a metal base of the same size could not.

It is also real marble, with veining that runs through the piece, so no two bases are identical — and unusually for this catalogue, our record says so correctly.

Black or white marble, against antique gold

The antique gold frame is the constant; the marble changes the character entirely. Black marble with gold is high contrast and formal — the base reads as a solid dark block and the gold traces a line out of it. White marble with gold is lighter and warmer, and the veining shows much more, because there is more surface to see it against.

Compact, and deliberately so — this is a lamp for a console, a desk corner, a shelf or a bedside where you want light somewhere specific rather than everywhere.
