Ingrid 1 Light Floor Lamp

The Ingrid is a floor lamp with a marble base and a gold arm reaching 460 mm out from it. That reach is the design: the shade sits over a chair or a table rather than beside it, so the light lands where you are, not next to you.

An offset arm needs a heavy base

Reaching 460 mm sideways at 1,550 mm tall puts real leverage on the base. The marble is what stops it toppling — it is a structural choice, not just a decorative one. It also means the lamp is heavy to move, so decide the position before you carry it in.

Reach over the furniture, not around it

The point of an offset floor lamp is to stand behind or beside a sofa and put the shade over the seat. That gives reading light without a side table, which is useful where there is no room for one, or where a cable across the floor would be a nuisance.

40 W of capacity, higher than most

It takes a single E27 globe up to 40 W — more headroom than the 25 W common across this range — and no globe is supplied. For reading, that extra capacity is worth using.

• Behind or beside a sofa, with the shade over the seat.
• Reading chairs where there is no room for a side table.
• Bedrooms, reaching over a bed as an alternative to bedside lamps.
• Rentals, since it is double insulated and simply plugs in.

Specifying it

Height 1,550 mm, arm reach 460 mm, base 350 mm, in marble, metal and fabric. One E27 globe up to 40 W, not supplied. It is Class II — double insulated, no earth required, and IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Dimming is globe dependent. Two colourways: gold with black, or gold with white. Warranty is three years.
