The Nella rotatable is the directional member of the surface mounted family. Where a fixed downlight throws its light straight down, this one lets the head be angled after installation — so it can wash a wall, pick out a painting, or lean into a corner the ceiling grid does not line up with.
At 18 W it is also one of the higher-output bodies in the range, producing between 1,440 and 1,620 lm from a powder coated aluminium housing in black or white. Both finishes are covered by this listing and both perform identically.
A rotatable head is worth choosing when the fitting position is fixed but the target is not — a stairwell, a sloped ceiling, a bench that sits off-centre from the joists. It is worth being deliberate about aim: a downlight angled towards a seating position puts the source in someone's eyeline, which is exactly what a fixed baffled downlight is designed to avoid. Aim at surfaces, not at people.
The fitting is tri-colour and the setting is chosen at installation: 1,440 lm at 3000K, 1,530 lm at 4000K and 1,620 lm at 5500K, with colour rendering at CRI >80. Unlike several fittings in this family, output here does climb steadily with colour temperature, so 5500K is both the coolest and the brightest setting.
There is no cutout. The fitting mounts to a base fixed against the ceiling surface, which suits concrete, render and timber linings and avoids any question of cavity depth. It runs on 240 V AC wired directly to mains, with fittings wired in parallel across a run — each sits across the supply independently, so one failed unit does not take the rest of the circuit with it.
The IP54 rating covers dust and splashing water from any direction, suiting bathroom ceilings and covered outdoor areas, though not immersion or pressure washing. Dimming is Triac.
One practical note on specifying rotatables in a run: because each head can be aimed independently, a row of them will only look deliberate if the angles are set deliberately. Fittings left at slightly different angles read as a mistake from across a room in a way that fixed downlights never can. Decide before installation whether the row is aiming at one thing together, or each at its own target, and set them accordingly.
Havit's warranty on this fitting is 3 years replacement; some older printed documentation for the model shows a shorter term, which has been superseded. Lights For You stocks the rotatable Nella alongside the fixed bodies at the same wattages, so a room can mix directional and general light without changing the look of the ceiling.
The head is adjustable after installation so the light can be aimed rather than fixed straight down. Set the angle once the fitting is mounted and powered, with the beam falling where you actually want it — the useful range is best judged in place rather than from a number.
1,440 lm at 3000K, 1,530 lm at 4000K and 1,620 lm at 5500K. All three colour settings are built into every fitting and selected during installation, so one product code covers a warm living area and a cool laundry.
When the fitting position is constrained but the target is not — sloped ceilings, stairwells, a bench that does not line up with the joists, or artwork on a wall. For general room lighting a fixed baffled downlight usually gives a cleaner result with less glare.
No. It is surface mounted and fixes to a mounting base against the ceiling, so there is no hole to cut and no ceiling cavity access required.
No. It runs on 240 V AC wired directly to mains, with fittings wired in parallel across a run. Installation is work for a licensed electrician.
Yes, it is Triac dimmable. Use a dimmer rated for LED loads and check the dimmer's minimum load against how many fittings share the circuit.
Three years replacement. Some older printed documentation for this model shows a shorter term, which has been superseded by Havit's current 3 year entitlement.
