Nella Black 12w Surface Mounted LED

This is the original Nella 12 W surface mounted downlight — the tri-colour, glass-diffused body that preceded Havit's five-colour models. It is a different fitting from the five-colour Nella despite the shared name, and the differences are worth understanding before you mix them on one ceiling.

Where the newer bodies use a deep baffle and a narrow 60° beam, this one runs a 120° beam through an aluminium-and-glass housing. That is a genuinely wide spread: it washes a room evenly from fewer fittings rather than dropping defined pools of light, which suits hallways, bedrooms and general living areas more than it suits task lighting over a bench.

Tri-colour output

Three colour settings are built in and selected at installation: 995 lm at 3000K, 1,125 lm at 4000K and 1,050 lm at 5500K. Note the shape of that: the brightest setting is 4000K in the middle, not 5500K at the top. It is natural to assume a cooler LED is a brighter one, and on this fitting the opposite holds above 4000K — so if you want the most light on the floor, 4000K is the setting, and 5500K is a colour choice you pay about 75 lm for. Colour rendering is CRI >80.

Both black and white finishes are available from this listing, and both carry identical output; the finish is a styling decision rather than a performance one.

Glass, not plastic

One detail separates this generation from the newer five-colour Nella bodies and it is worth knowing: Havit's specification for this fitting lists the material as aluminium with a glass diffuser, where the five-colour models use a plastic diffuser. Glass holds its clarity over time rather than yellowing under heat, and it wipes clean without scratching — a real advantage in a kitchen or a bathroom where the fitting will be washed rather than dusted. The trade-off is toughness: glass is more brittle than the plastic used on the five-colour bodies, which Havit rates IK08 for impact. This is not the fitting for a garage, a workshop, or a ceiling within reach of a swung object.

Installation

Being surface mounted, the Nella needs no cutout — it fixes to a mounting base flat against the ceiling, which makes it usable on concrete, render and timber linings where a recessed fitting cannot go. It runs on 240 V AC wired directly to mains with no driver in the circuit, and multiple fittings are wired in parallel.

The fitting is IP54 rated — dust protected and sealed against splashing water from any direction — which covers bathroom ceilings and covered outdoor areas, though not immersion or high-pressure water. Dimming is Triac.

Havit's warranty on this fitting is 3 years replacement. Some older printed documentation for this model still shows a shorter term; the current entitlement is 3 years and that is what Lights For You honours on every Nella sold.

Lights For You stocks both the tri-colour and the five-colour Nella bodies, and it is worth checking which one an existing ceiling uses before ordering replacements — the beam angles are 120° and 60° respectively, and mixing them in one room is visible.
