Taper is a wedge-shaped wall and step light that angles its light downward onto the surface below rather than out into the eye — the classic detail for a stair flight, a jetty edge or a path wall. Unlike almost every other step light in this range, Taper does not have a sealed LED: it takes a replaceable 1.4 W G4 LED globe, which is the reason it is still specified on installations that need to be serviced rather than replaced.

The choice to make: part number sets the colour, finish sets the life

Colour temperature is fixed by the part number, not switchable:

  • HV3608W — warm white 3000K, 90 lm. The domestic choice; reads soft against stone and timber.
  • HV3608C — cool white 6000K, 110 lm. Crisper and slightly brighter; reads commercial.

Then choose the body: 316 stainless steel, copper, white or black. The 316 stainless and copper options are the ones to specify near salt water — copper weathers to a patina, 316 stainless holds its finish. White and black are painted, so they suit inland and sheltered positions.

Where it works
  • Stair flights and ramps where the wedge form throws light down onto the tread and keeps it out of the eye line.
  • Coastal decks, jetties and beach-house paths — specify 316 stainless steel or copper.
  • Path and boundary walls under some shelter, spaced to overlap their pools of light.
  • Commercial and strata access ways where a serviceable globe beats replacing the whole fitting.
Specifying it

The base is G4. A different base will not fit — a GU10, MR16 or MR11 lamp is physically and electrically wrong here, so replacements must be G4 and rated for 12 V DC. Body dimensions are 60 mm wide by 85 mm high.

Taper runs on 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver; it must never be connected directly to 240 V. Each fitting must sit within 25 m of its driver for the warranty to hold. Rated IP44, which covers splashing from any direction — suitable for a sheltered outdoor wall, not for a position taking driving rain or standing water. Not dimmable. Installation by a licensed electrician.

Questions
Is the globe replaceable?

Yes. Taper takes a 1.4 W G4 LED globe, which can be changed without replacing the fitting — unusual in this category and the main reason to choose it.

Can I fit a different type of globe?

No. The base is G4 and only a G4 lamp will fit. GU10, MR16 and MR11 lamps are the wrong base and must not be forced in. The replacement must also be rated for 12 V DC.

Can I choose the colour temperature?

At the point of order, yes — but by part number, not by a switch. HV3608W is warm white 3000K at 90 lm; HV3608C is cool white 6000K at 110 lm.

Which finish should I use near the beach?

316 stainless steel or copper. Both are corrosion-resistant through the material rather than through a coating; the painted white and black bodies are better kept inland or under cover.

Does it need a driver?

Yes, a 12 V DC LED driver sized for every fitting on the run. Never connect Taper directly to 240 V mains.

Is IP44 enough for an outdoor stair?

For a sheltered one. IP44 resists splashing water from any direction, which suits a wall under an eave or a covered flight; a fully exposed position taking driving rain calls for IP65 or better.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

We reserve the right to refuse a return in cases where we cannot be reasonably satisfied that you purchased the product from us or where we are not responsible for the damage in accordance with our Faults & damages policy.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.

  • Restocking fee: 20% will apply unless otherwise stated, or unless another order of equal or greater value is placed in lieu of this re-stocking fee.
