Mask 316 LED Wall Light

The Mask is a surface-mounted exterior wall light built around a five-slot face: the opal diffuser sits behind a 316 stainless steel cover, so the light leaves as five soft bands rather than a single glaring source. It is a wall-wash fitting rather than a task light, which makes it a good fit either side of a door, along a rendered wall, or repeated down a corridor of fencing where the pattern itself does the decorating. Two finishes are sold — a poly powder coated black and the bare 316 stainless steel — at the same price, so the choice is purely about how it reads against your wall.

The choice to make

Finish is the only variant decision. HV36042T-BLK is the black version and HV36042T the stainless one; both are the same fitting with the same output, the same 10 W LED and the same rating. Colour temperature is not a purchase decision either — it is a tri-colour fitting set at install by a slide switch on the front of the PCB, and the output changes with it: 520 lm at 3000K, 550 lm at 4000K and 580 lm at 5500K. Warm 3000K suits an entry or a courtyard wall; 5500K reads whiter and more utilitarian down a side passage.

Where it works

• Beside a front door under the eave, where the slot pattern is close enough to be seen.
• Along a covered alfresco wall, repeated at even spacing as a rhythm.
• A protected garage or carport wall that needs presence rather than brightness.
• Under a balcony soffit, washing the wall below.

Specifying it

The Mask runs on 240 V AC and wires straight to mains — there is no driver or transformer in the circuit. The LED is built in, so there is no globe to buy now and none to replace later; when the LED reaches end of life the fitting is replaced, not relamped. It is protection class 2, so no earth connection is required at the fitting. The one specification that decides where it can go is the IP rating: the fitting is IP54, which covers splashing water, not driving rain, so it belongs under an eave, a soffit or a balcony rather than on a fully exposed facade. In a coastal position the 316 stainless steel is the right grade, but it still needs regular washing down — Havit excludes tea staining from the warranty.

Unusually for a fitting in this class, the Mask is Triac dimmable, so it can run on a standard leading-edge wall dimmer. The dimmer is not supplied, and it needs to be one your electrician is happy to pair with an LED load.
