Shim is the largest and brightest fitting in this range by a wide margin: a surface-mounted rectangle, 301 mm long × 65 mm × 120 mm, with a 14 W built-in LED behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser putting out over 1,100 lm at a 120° spread. It is not a step marker in the usual sense — a run of these lights a wall and the space in front of it. The opal diffuser is what makes that bearable at close range: it spreads the output instead of letting you see the LEDs. Available in black or white, in two voltages.
Output is the same either way: 1,120 lm at 3000K, 1,150 lm at 4000K and 1,190 lm at 5500K, tri-colour selectable at install, CRI above 80. Only the wiring differs.
IP54, so Shim belongs in sheltered positions — under an eave, a pergola or a soffit — and not on a wall taking driving rain or coastal wash. Wired in parallel. Not dimmable in either voltage, which is worth weighing at this output: 1,100 lm on a patio wall is a lot of light with no way to pull it back, so consider switching it separately from any lower-level circuit. On the 12 V models, keep each fitting within 25 m of its driver, a warranty limit. Powder-coated aluminium in black or white; the LED is built in, so no globe is needed and none can be fitted. Licensed electrician only.
Backed by a 3-year replacement warranty.
Supplied by Lights For You — Shim is the 14 W end of the step-light range and cannot be dimmed, so talk to us about switching and spacing before committing a full wall to it.
At 14 W per fitting, the 240 V version is usually simpler — it wires straight to mains with no driver. The 12 V version makes sense only where a low-voltage circuit already exists and the driver can carry the load.
Yes, a 12 V DC LED driver sized for the whole circuit, and it must never be connected directly to 240 V. At 14 W each, only a few of these fit on a driver that would run a dozen 1 W markers.
No, in neither voltage. Given the output, plan the switching accordingly — a separate switch from your low-level circuit is often the practical answer.
Under cover, yes — IP54 handles splashing and wind-blown spray on a sheltered wall. On a fully exposed or coastal wall, choose an IP65 fitting instead.
Further than you would space a small marker — each fitting is 301 mm long and puts out over 1,100 lm. Set the positions out on the wall and keep the gaps even, because at this output uneven spacing is obvious after dark.
No. The 14 W LED is built in and not user-replaceable, so there is nothing to buy separately.
